Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-437: Silent Salt

In a history book I am reading, the author makes the point that for every nun or monk that was living in debauchery there were probably hundreds or thousands who are serving faithfully.

I think this is a pattern.  We tend to get excited about the extremes.  We tend to want to know all the juicy details.  In reality, most people’s lives are rather humdrum.  We look at our culture and we see all the fraud and corruption.  It exist.  It needs to be dealt with.  But behind the scenes, in the quiet corners, sometimes right in front of us life goes on with those who are being responsible and ethical.

I’m going to a men’s meeting.  There’s a good chance they’ll ask me how things are going.  I, like so many, can say pretty good.  That’s not any evasion.  It is not the opposite of an exaggeration.  It’s the simple truth.  I don’t have any dramatic stories to tell about what’s going on in my life.  It’s like going to the dentist and rejoicing because it’s a boring visit.

There is a lot to be said for a boring life.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
