Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-165: Shoud-a-Beens: Invasion Anyone?

It wasn’t my idea.  We were having Sunday dinner and discussing the state of affairs.  My son suggested an enterprising Indian tribe needs to invade the autonomous zone in Seattle and declare it conquered territory.  The various American Indian tribes have a sort of semi-autonomous state so they can understand the condition.  Since CHAZ or CHOP considers themselves no longer a part of the United States they would be responsible for their own defense.

Once they have possession, the tribe can make a deal with the locals:  No taxes and membership in the tribe.  They could also buy the property that has been destroyed and build a casino.  It sounds like a win all around.

Based on what I have seen of Seattle and its people it would be a win for all of us.  We might need to bribe a few Indians.

Opus 2020-164: Headlines: Ditching the Duke

The word I get is that the current crop of America haters want to go after the Duke.  They want to rename John Wayne Airport.  Might I suggest that Tinker Bell International.

I might suggest that if the name is remove there are a lot of red blooded American cities that might want to go for the title.  I don’t know it if would be first come is the winner or if it would require an auction or court case.  Judging the need for cash in California I think the auction would be their best choice.  I would suggest a Texas city but the way our big ones are going in the current hysteria I am not sure that the Wayne family would want their name associated with any of them.

Maybe Pierre, South Dakota would be willing to claim the name.  The South Dakota governor, Kristi Noem seems to understand what it is to be an American.

Wait until the ignorant SJWs realize that many cities like Los Angeles (the angels), San and Santa (male and feminine of saint), and Corpus Christi (body of Christ) have Christian connections.

Opus 2020-163: On the Street: A Non-Shopping Trip

In our part of Texas there is only one large grocery store chain, H-E-B.  They are kept honest by the Walmarts and Targets with full grocery sections and a few smaller stores.  All in all they do a good job.  They have refused to require masks to shop in their stores.  I wrote a letter to the manager thanking him for that freedom and, since I was going shopping anyway, decided to deliver it in person.

When I got to the store I noticed that since my last visit they had put up a sign requiring a mask.  I decided to pass my letter on anyway, walked through the door and handed it to an employee stationed there.  I asked if it was corporate policy.  He said, no, the county had passed something that required it.  I thanked him, told him I wrote the letter before the sign went up but told him to pass it on anyway.  I then turned around and left.

The county that is pretty much made up of San Antonio has been harassing citizens for months about masks.  They were only held at bay by the governor.  Now Judge Wolff, whom I wrote about before, has entered the fray, finding a way around the law so he could rule by fiat.  And then Governor Abbott went soft.  New Braunfels, where I did some shopping, passed a mandate last week.  I still had Guadalupe county.  That changed today.

What do I do now?  I am going to call a few of the smaller stores out in the country and find out if I have any options.  I came to Texas to get away from the California crazies.  It seems that stupid is spreading faster than Covid.

Opus 2020-162: Headlines: It Sucks to be a Progressive

Is Princeton really going to remove the name of Woodrow Wilson from buildings?  I did a Google search and all the sources I found were as reliable as CNN so I won’t link any, read any or know.  If true, I have mixed feeling about the action.

On one side I say, “It is about time.  Wilson was one of the original Progressives*.  He is guilty of all the things that the current flock of Progressives* accuse him of and on top of that he was a Progressive*.  I won’t go into that here.

On the other side, I am tired of caving in to the “I want!  I want!” antics of the current toddler generation.  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to put a newborn in an adult body with physical coordination and the ability to talk?  I usually bring that up when I am talking about Original Sin.  That is what we have today and someone has handed them a Molotov cocktail, a loaded AK and a spiked club.  When you reward bullies and Marxists revolutionaries they just take it to the next level.  They know they have us in a box.  If we respond with violence then the media will get the blood they want and I guarantee they won’t call us “mostly peaceful protestors”.  If we don’t then they push harder.

One consolation we have is that Marxism tends to eat its own.  Does the name Nikolai Yezhov ring any bells.  Maybe you have seen the doctored picture that shows Stalin walking along with his sycophants paying homage.  In the original photo Yezhov is the man by Stalin’s left elbow.  In the doctored photos he is gone.  It seems he was arrested and executed.  We see the beginnings of this as the wealthy liberals in Minneapolis that owned exclusive homes around their own park suddenly find it filled with homeless people.

Once you start this kind of purge it keeps going until one of two things happen.  First, someone, or a lot of someone’s, gets hurt or killed.  Second choice:  We become a police state.  Worst case is that both will happen.

Start standing up when you get a chance because the chances will disappear the way things are going.

Opus 2020-161: Headlines: After the Killer Hornets

The media never gets over their need to hype.  One headline I saw talked about a giant cloud of African dust that is going to descend on our nation soon.  You got the feeling it was more dangerous than the China Virus.  It probably is, which means not so much.  I had already read about it under another sensational headline and been informed about it by my You Tube watching wife.  The author of the article I read made the mistake of pointing out that this happens every year and can be predicted fairly accurately.

But the gurus of the media tell us, “Fear!”  I guess the killer hornets didn’t do the trick.

Opus 2020-160: Firsts: Zoom

Modern technology keeps knocking.  I try to ignore it and pat others on the head when they use it.  I should know better.

This weekend I had my first experience with Zoom.  If you have not used it yet, it is like Facetime or Skype with a group.  We were spread over 1,800 miles so I guess it made sense to use this platform.

If the hysteria keeps going viral then we may end up going to meetings like this more often.  We might even have family dinners with each person in their own room.

And yes, I wore pants for the event.

Opus 2020-159: The Lion in the Street

I have a word for those of you who are agnostic, atheistic, pagan and so forth:  Fear.

I have an addition to that for those of you claiming to be Christians:  Fear God.

There is not only an eternity of difference, but a world of difference.

As a Christian I am aware that there are diseases out there that can get you.  That has been true my entire life.  I have had a few of them.  I have walked past innumerable others unscathed.  It is not a matter of luck it is a matter of something called Providence.  God made me.  He made you too, even if you don’t acknowledge it.  When he designed me it was like the modern day Lexus or whatever car you think is uber reliable.  He put in all the filters, warning lights, backups and overrides that were needed to guarantee almost flawless performance.  What happens if I cut myself?  “Got that,” God tells me.  I later learn about clotting factors, antibodies and white blood cells.  They were there all the time.  When my body is invaded by nasty germs God says, “Got you covered.”  And so forth.  Do I worry about getting sick?  I guess.  Do I allow that to make me walk in fear.  Hah!

As a generic pagan you have none of those assurances.  So, yes, walk in fear.  The virus is out to get you.  So are the hundreds of other viruses out there.  There is tetanus waiting and strep throat.  Food poisoning is right behind you and toxins in your water are looking for a hole in your filter.  In addition to that your government is full of people who would like nothing more than to control every aspect of your life.  Fear.

Wash your hands.  I do that.  I could even document that in the Bible.  There is nothing wrong with common sense but don’t worry about the unicorns.  Maybe a better example is lions.  I love this passage in Proverbs.
(Pro 26:13 KJV) The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
I am not accusing you of being a sloth; just reflecting on how fear can cripple.

Opus 2020-158: Plow and Crown: I Hate the Game of Monopoly

Should we be moving toward thinking like the third world?

In history and in much of the world today people ignore the law.  They assume they will not get caught and if they are they can bribe the catcher.  If that doesn’t work they can bribe the judge.  If that doesn’t work, their cousin will get them out.  The law is only for the weak and fearful.

In America and the parts of the world influenced by the moral philosophy of Christianity run through the culture of Great Britain it has worked differently.

The Progressives*, headed by their street thugs and media outlets are doing everything they can to force us to abandon our standards.  They want to destroy the rule of law and replace it by the rule of the sword.  They know how we play the game.  They know that we have a resistance to cheating.  It is built in.  So they take advantage of it.  They decide to act as the banker.  You know the type.  Conservative judges make their ruling based on precedent.  Liberals ignore it and make up their own rules which then become precedent.  They do this knowing that the conservatives will then play fair and follow it.  They keep pushing the can down the road.

A case in point in the recent China Virus panic.  There are cities where convicted criminals are being turned loose so that they won’t be exposed to the virus in jail and then people who refuse to wear a mask are put in jail.  There have been cases of mothers hauled off to jail for letting their children play in the park.  At the same time the police stand back and let violent thugs burn down businesses.  The Progressives* just sit back and laugh as they move the marker a little further.  They know that eventually the system will break.

I have been raised to respect the police and follow the law.  Now we have judges forcing us to wear masks and politicians telling us to stay home.  I was watching a video of a young man being confronted by three thugs with rifles who were blocking the street and telling him that if he went past them he would be endangering their demonstrators and they would have to stop him.  The inference was the stopping would be violent and involve the muzzles pointed at him.  He pulled out his phone to call 911.  They just laughed and pointed a half block down the street and said the police are right there.  You can’t play monopoly if only one person follows the rules.

Do we insist on being the banker?  Do we quit playing?  Do we pick up the board and throw it in their face?

As they say, “Asking for a friend.”

Opus 2020-157: New Terms: A Yogi

I has been years since I read Thomas Sowell’s The Vision of the Anointed.  If I remember correctly he makes the point that the group of people that I label Progressives* have a sense that they are anointed by something bigger than God with a specialness enabling them to know what is best for other people.  They think that rules are for the little people and walk around repeating the toddler mantra to themselves, “I’m big.”  As our betters they will decide what we can do and what would harm us.  We are expected to be grateful.

Recently I mentioned a judge who said, “The action that I’m taking today may be pushing the legal bounds a little bit,...”  What that means is he knows the rules but, since he is smarter than the common man, he is going to ignore them.  Of course it is for our own good.  I think we might need a new term for this and suggest calling it having “a Yogi”.

It has been years since I have watched the cartoons but I remember that Yogi always thought he was smarter than the average bear.  With him it was picnic baskets.  With our modern Progressive* Yogi’s it is every liberty you have that makes them feel insecure in their righteousness.

Does that make us Bobo or the Ranger?

It can have variations such as “being Yogied” and “Yogi talk”.  It could be used with great frequency.

Opus 2020-156: On the Street: Virtuous Panic

I had an insight into why certain professions are so concerned about wearing a mask.  With the current state of panic and government manipulation a doctor who contacts the virus will be driven out of his profession.  It doesn’t matter if he has symptoms.  It doesn’t matter that he is not really dangerous to anyone else.  He will be sent home.  He will be a victim of the panic as much as an innocent bystander overrun by a riot.

When I come up to a store that virtue signals me to be concerned for others when there is no dange,r I will turn and shop somewhere else as long as I can.  For my doctors and dentist I guess I can wear a face covering, even if I don’t think it makes any difference.

Isn’t that big of me?

I am so tired of the spirit of fear.

Opus 2020-155: Snowflake Alert

We think we got problems.  We look at the way in which civilization seems to be coming to an end.  One of the reasons we need to study history is to see patterns and have a better judgement of our problems.

About 100 years before the official end of the Roman Empire in the west the Romans and the Germans were having problems on the Danube.  The Roman commander, being an arrogant fool, invited the leader of a major German tribe, the Quadi, to dinner and murdered him.  He was not ready for the response.
“This atrocious mishandling of the affair so infuriated the Quadi that they joined together with the neighbors and stormed across the Danube.  None of the Roman farmers who lived on the frontier were expecting the attack:  the invaders ‘crossed the Danube while no hostility was anticipated, and fell upon the country people, who were busy with their harvest; most of them they killed, the survivors they led home as prisoners.’” Bauer, p. 46
You think you got problems.  You know the barbarians are coming.  You have warning.  Many voted for the politicians who enable the mobs and then went out to cheer them on.  Then the mob turned on them.  Most of us know to stay away from blue cities and to move out of blue states.  We have countless bloggers trumpeting the end of the world.  For these people it came as a total surprise.

About the same time a peaceful England was invaded by four different groups and was so decimated that it never did recover before Rome finally pulled out.  The Pax Romana was over with a vengeance.

I have also been reading about the world of the Pilgrims.  They had just sent a large shipment of furs and lumber products to England hoping for a sale to get them out of debt.  Unfortunately things were not looking up for selling furs in the old country.  Their agent explains in a letter,
“But I must now acquaint you, how the Lord’s heavy hand is upon this kingdom in many places, but chiefly in this city, with His judgment of the plague.  The last week’s bill was 1200 and odd.  I fear this will be more, and it is much feared it will be a winter sickness.  By reason whereof it is incredible the number of people that are gone into the county and left the city; I am persuaded many more than went out the last great sickness.  So as here is no trading, carriers from most places put down, nor no receiving of any money though long due.”  Bradford, p. 321
If you missed it that was 1,200 people died in one town in one week.  You think we got problems?  At the same time the weather was going from drought to flood.  They did not lock down and call for welfare checks.  They kept going and doing what they needed to do.

Count your blessings, stop living in fear and stand up.

Opus 2020-154: Headlines: They Are Coming for Jesus

You may have read about the hate filled individual who is now calling for statues of Jesus to be removed.  He virtue signals that it is because of some strange type of white supremacy.  In going through the memes at Georges Grouse I came across one that gave the real reason.  In case you went to public university, it is a quote from the Old Testament in the Bible.
(Exo 23:1-3 KJV) Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.  Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:  Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
Progressives* tend to have an intense hatred for anything having to do with the God of the Bible.  The attack on statues of Jesus is just an open expression of that hatred.  Yes, I know this is the Old Testament and Jesus is in the New.  It is still the same God and the same truth.  It is the same sense of justice that says, “Don’t follow the crowd.  Don’t give special treatment to the poor any more than the rich.  Don’t lie to win.”  It is a sense of justice that says truth does not change with today’s headlines or change of special interest groups.

Obviously the issue is not the lives of black people.  All data shows that most black people who are murdered are murdered by other black people.  The issue is anything that destroys the moral fiber of the countries that are based on Christian values.

In case they are not paying attention, they need to read the Book.  I have.  I know who wins.

Opus 2020-153: Put Up or Shut Up

Everyone is throwing around the name of George Soros.  He is blamed for so many things that I begin to think he is a superman.  If evidence exists for him bankrolling violence and actively destroying America then it is time for an arrest and indictment.  It needs to be more than quotes he made long ago and in another country.  It needs to be more than grainy photographs designed to make him look worse than he looks.  I am not a lawyer nor a law enforcement officer.  I don’t know all the rules and the definitions, but if 10% of what he is accused of has evidence, then go legal.

If not, it is time to find out who is behind this.  It is not just happening.  There is a lot of planning and training going into the violence.  Act like they are a mother taking her kids to the park and arrest them.  It sounds and looks to me like there has been a lot of planning and money put into having the right people at the right place to start a riot.

I guess if our intelligence agencies were looking after the security of the nation instead of trying to bring down Trump a lot of this would be done by now.

Elections are coming.  We need a strong enough vote that they can’t win even when they cheat.  If we put enough of them in jail they might not be able to cheat.

Opus 2020-152: Time for Meat

What is going on between China and India?

I keep picking up snippets about them involved in conflict but the only headlines I get are about the increase in China virus cases.  I checked my links to English newspapers and they were obsessed with the China virus and Megan.  I finally got desperate and did a search for Indian Newspapers.  I came up with a long list, checked a few, found a little bit of propaganda and a lot about the China virus.

America, the world has a lot of things going on and all we can do is hear shrill cries about the number of cases going up.  All you need to know about the China virus is there are more cases because of more testing and the number of deaths per day continues to decline.  Now lets get something about half the world’s population getting ready to nuke each other.  I didn’t mind being spoon fed when I was an infant, at least I don’t think so.  It may come as a surprise to the news media but I can use a knife and fork now and I even know not to use them for tomato soup.

Opus 2020-151: Election 2024: Platform, Sci Fi Legislation

The Constitution has two restraints that are important to the rule of law.  They are found in Article 1, section 9 where we are told,
“No bill of attainder or ex post facto law shall be passed.”
If you are like most Americans you didn’t know they were in the Constitution and, if you knew, don’t know what they mean.

A bill of attainder is a way of targeting a specific enemy under the disguise of the law.  It would say something like, “George Soros is to be arrested and put in jail for ten years.”  There is no trial, no appeal and no due process.  You can see how this would be a problem.  This restraint needs to be kept in mind.

Ex post facto means to pass a law after the fact and have it apply before it was passed.  The government has found many ways to do this.  They change tax laws for previous years.  They make things illegal that have been legal throughout our history.  One example would deal with attempts at gun control.  You are not supposed to be able to make something illegal that has a long history of common usage.

Where am I going with this.  I think that the Republicans need to sit down and start working on some science fiction legislation.  Good science fiction involves guessing or predicting what is coming and telling a good story based on what they think.  We need to start writing laws to deal with situations that seem to be developing.  We need clearer definitions of what treason is.  We need to have laws stating clearly that government employees who use their position to mistreat others need to do some hard time.  We have been watching the alphabet agencies get away with just about everything short of murder.  We have the courts saying that it is okay for police to lie to you.  We need to look forward and develop some way to deal with people who deliberately teach things that undermine the Constitution when they are being paid by tax money.  The intent of the laws needs to be spelled out so clearly that the Supreme Court has no wiggle room.

There are some slippery slopes here.  I know that.  We need to have discussions and arguments about what this would look like.

Meanwhile we need to enforce the laws we have.  We need to remove the Teflon coating that allows James Comey to lie to the nation on live TV and walk away.  That is just one example.  We need to find the leakers of confidential information.  We need to find out who felt the need to send armed swat teams to arrest Roger Stone instead of simply having the chaplain deliver an arrest warrant.

There is a lot that can be done with planning and a bit of courage.  Do our elected officials know about either one?

Opus 2020-150: The Spam Example

In response to the censorship going on by Google, Twitter and Facebook I have a suggestion.

Set up a spreader system.  Right now there are millions of us that are not being shut down.  Part of the reason is that we don’t have enough following.  To be honest, we are not important enough to bother with.  We need to follow the lead of the “they can’t arrest us all” crowd and have The Federalist and Zero Hedge blast out their posts and have them show up on a million different platforms.  A clever techie could also develop a program to continually open new accounts and have the posts appear there.  It would also need a feed people could go to and locate the new accounts.  It could work like a police scanner.

I know this sounds a lot like spam.  It is.  The basics are already there.  All we need is someone with the skills to get it up and running.  Of course the big sites would need some kind of buy in and sign up sheet.  I keep hearing that we are not stupid.  That does not mean that we are smart or motivated.

Opus 2020-149: On the Street: Outside the Silver Lining

I was sitting on my porch enjoying the Texas morning, when I realized I liked the overcast sky.

It keeps the sun out of my eyes.  When the sun is breaking over the horizon I am forced to move my chair so that my head is in shadow.  It tends to block my vision.  It will work but it is not the best.

Clouds can add a lot.  I learned from watching the morning in Hawaii that there is unexpected beauty as the black dilutes to gray and is slowly transformed to orange.  When you have clouds you get a constantly changing palette of stimulation.

It can tell me the way the wind is blowing at different levels.  It is a bit disconcerting to have the breeze coming from your left and watching the high clouds moving in the opposite direction.  There are lessons about life to be learned there.

I guess this is another interpretation of the idea, “When life give you lemons,...”

Enjoy every minute of variety that comes your way.

Opus 2020-148: Be of Good Cheer

This morning I had a great kick off as I began working through the voices I think are worth hearing.  One site I visit at least once a day is DB Daily Update.  Today they referenced an article written by someone named Kurt Schlichter.  If I have ever heard of him before the name is not in my mental roto-file.  What he had to say was encouraging.

To summarize:  Don’t worry.  The violence you are being told is bringing down the republic is a bunch of isolated incidents in Democrat controlled cesspools.  The media is trying to make you believe it is overwhelming.  It isn’t, it is a plan by the people controlling those venues.

To be honest I have not seen any indication of violence.  I know no one who has tested positive for the China Virus.  I should know better than to believe anything the media tells me.  It seems like they can report on nothing without mixing in a large spoon full of “Orange Man Bad”.

If my summary isn’t encouraging enough then go read the excerpt they quote.

November is coming.  Vote the suckers out.

Opus 2020-147: To Humbug or Not to Humbug

I am told today is Fathers’ Day.  I would never remember if they didn’t keep reminding me.  I think my wife does it because she wants me to remember Mothers’ Day.

I tell my kids that with children like them, every day is Father’s Day to me.  All I need to do is look at the photos on my desk or find a pacifier that my granddaughter left in a special place and I am overwhelmed by the blessings.

Fathers’ Day has a lot in common with Easter and Christmas.  If you claim to be a Christian and only darken the doors of the church on a few special holidays, I have bad news for you.  It don’t mean a thing.  The same is true about honoring your father or, for that matter, you mother.  If it is just a thing you do because you don’t want to tell people you did nothing, you have done nothing.

Being a parent is one of God’s greatest gifts.  I rejoice in the children He gave me.  I hope they are glad I am their father.

Happy Fathers’ Day.  I hope it is just one in a constant stream of fathering days in your life.

Opus 2020-146: The Appropriate Culture

I wonder if it would be cultural appropriation if we all declared ourselves to be Roof Koreans.  Would the Koreans mind?  Would we care, after all, they are not black.  They are secure in whom they are.  Maybe we could be more accurate and use Roof South Koreans or South Roof Koreans.

We could develop some kind of logo that is easy to recognize like the MAGA hats.  We could have yard signs replacing the “Insured by Smith and Wesson” signs that say so much.  We could take down our “Beware of Dog” signs and put of “Beware of Roof Korean”.  Instead of Neighborhood Watch we could have Rook Korean Watch and in our car windows little signs that say “Roof Korean on Board”.

People are living in fear of the violence.  One of the things we keep forgetting is that Antifa and BLW are cowards at heart.  They will never face someone of equal power.  They gang up on you, sneak up behind your back, attack at night and generally do whatever they can to get the advantage.  The recent video of the thug walking down the street and casually punching the old lady in the walker is an example.  He would not have done that to Chuck Norris, at least not more than once.  If it was a legitimate war, both sides would be doing this and it would be above board.  Ambushes and surprise attacks are marks of a good general in war time.  They are the marks of a criminal coward when the other side is unarmed and does not consider themselves in the fight.  If the rioters perceive that you are ready for them and ready to return the harm, they will look for a different venue.  For those of you afraid of guns you might try an Airsoft.

So this is not an advocacy of violence, it is a way to avoid it.  If the fleet in Pearl Harbor had been alert and ready the Japanese would not have attacked.  If America had been expecting the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon the terrorists would have gone looking for someone who was asleep.  When terrorists want to shoot up a public venue they avoid the gun show and hit the gun free zone down the street.

We are all Roof Koreans now, or we should be.

Opus 2020-145: Headlines: Judge Who Is Above the Law

Progressives* are alive and well in Texas.  A recent headline at My San Antonio “news” site started off with “Wolff finds way around Governor.”  Wolff is a county judge who evidently is looking to be the chief executive of Texas rather than a judge.  Governor Abbott had ruled that counties could not fine people for not wearing masks.  The go-around that the judge proclaimed “ex cathedra” was that customers could not be fined but the business they were in could be fined $1,000 for each offense.  That sounds like progressive thinking to me.

The judge knows he is thumbing his nose at the rule of the law.  In the article he is quoted as saying,
“The action that I’m taking today may be pushing the legal bounds a little bit,” Wolff said. “But our attorneys believe we can defend this order in court.”
So we have an officer of the court admitting that he is, in effect, breaking the spirit of the law even if he found a sophist way of working within the letter.  Do you think he would let you get away with this if you were to appear in his court?

What made the whole thing even more ludicrous was the picture that went with the article.  It shows the judge adjusting his face covering.  In the process of adjusting he has his bare hands right under his nose as he moves a cowboy bandana.  If you are expecting the judge to keep you from catching whatever he has, don’t count on it.  His face covering is literally just a big handkerchief that he has tied behind his head.  It would not keep any virus in or out.

Petty dictators exist in Texas as well as the blue cities of other states.  They remind us that rules are for the little people, not their anointed rulers.

The liberty destroying comedy goes on.

I think I am going to stop using my clock radio for a wake up call.  I am finding that the combination of Fake News and bad news gets me off to a bad start.

Maybe a better term for the first things I hear would be “Hot Air Alerts”.  When the radio kicks in I am picking up the end of the traffic report.  If you have ever listened to them when you are driving you know what it is like to hear about an accident at exit 25 as you are rolling by exit 25 and all is clear.  What they share may have been true in some past life but by the time it gets on the air it is history.  Next up is a weather report.  I find it interesting that the radio report is coming from the center of town.  I am 20 miles out in the hill country.  They may report it is 76 degrees and they may be accurate, for down town.  Out where I am it is coming in at 69.

Then they get into the left wing alerts.  Alert:  Cases of Covid-19 are escalating.  This morning, horror of horrors, the county of possibly 2,000,000 people had another death attributed to the virus.  No word of how old they were or how many other life threatening conditions they suffered from, just another death.  They might as well just find someone with a deep voice to come on each morning and say, “Fear!”  Then there was a report that some judge has mandated that everyone must wear a mask when in a commercial business.

Will the nonsense never end?

There will be plenty of time in the day to find out what has gone wrong but I need a chance to get started before the poison starts to penetrate.

Opus 2020-143: On the Street: The Anti-Christ Arrives

My wife has the ability to talk to anyone.  Although I often cannot follow her, strangers seem to be able to tell their entire life story while standing in line at the grocery store.  Of course that was before social distancing but I think that just means she now has to talk louder.  Yesterday, while she was in the ladies room, she learned that Donald J. Trump is the anti-Christ.  Yes, that Donald J. Trump.  Yes, that anti-Christ.

Why?  Because she had seen a picture on the internet of his parents dressed up like the KKK.  We all know that if you see it on the internet, it must be true.  That means that the Democratic leadership, dressed in their Kente cloth were really bowing down to Donald J. Trump as he walked by.  I know because I saw the picture at least two different places.

Somewhere in my memory I think I have seen photos of Barak Obama dressed in KKK robes.  Does that make him a member?  Not as much as being a Democrat does.

In being called the Anti-Christ Trump joins a long list of the accused.  It ranges from Nero to KJF.  And there are a lot of candidates in between.  The Bible teaches that there will be an Anti-Christ.  It also says that there will be many anti-Christs.  My memory tells me there is a case to be made that anyone who is refusing to bow to the Almighty is a part of the anti-Christ.  He will come but I don’t think we will be able to guess or point fingers until it is too late.

Meanwhile be careful what you learn in bathrooms and grocery lines.

Opus 2020-142: Headlines: And Old Tradition

Riots are nothing new in America or the rest of the world.  We have lived such sheltered lives that we think suburbia of the 70's is the norm.  Not so.  Remember your history.

The Boston Massacre was really a riot.  A bunch of rowdies were bullying a British soldier who was on guard duty.  It is often portrayed as a bunch of patriots standing up for freedom.  No, it was a bunch of bullies thinking they could harass the poor guy in uniform.  They started with a lot of yelling then progressed to  snow balls.  Then some bright bulb decided to put rocks inside the snowballs.  Eventually the sentry called for reinforcements and shots were fired.  It is ironic that one of the founding fathers, John Adams, acted as the defense attorney for the soldiers who fired.  He got them off.

Draft riots did not start with Vietnam.  They go all the way back to the Civil War.  Guess where the big action was:  New York City.  In three days 120 people were killed.  Although the riot started because the draft allowed the wealthy to buy their way out it eventually turned racial.  There were also out of town gangs that came to join in the fun.

Since the current riots seemed to be linked to Antifa it is appropriate to look at the Nazi mob on what became known as Kristallnacht.  The predecessors of Antifa went through the towns breaking into Jewish business and homes.  It involved murder and brutality.

The 1968 Democratic Convention also will be remembered for the violence.

The list could go on.

So riots happen.  If you are one of the city people in the wrong part of town then there is no good ending.  If you live outside the effected area, count your blessings.  We hear rumors that Antifa is planning on coming for the non-urban masses too.  They might find the reception a little different and experience why modern riots tend to take place in large cities controlled by the Democrats and with strict gun controls.

Stay safe.

Opus 2020-141: Headlines: The Big Break In

I have been reading about it on blogs.  The Mayor of New York welded the gates shut to a playground that was used by Jewish children.  He was forced to remove the welds so he put chains and locks up instead.  The parents got their Jaws of Life and cut the chains.  Today I decided I would look for MSM sources on this.

In regard to the MSM, I found one reference to at an ABC site from New York.  I did not do an exhaustive search but I could not find references on the touted conservative new aggregaters.

The one I read was at a Jewish news site called the Jewish Telegraph Agency.  I have bookmarked the site.  Maybe I can get some real news from them.

I want to pause and salute these Jewish parents for showing us how Americans respond to the tyranny of power hungry officials.  We need more of this.  We need Americans to stand up, take off their masks and say, “No.”

We continue to see how the media manages our information and seeks to allow tyranny to succeed.

It would be great if we were all Jews today.

Opus 2020-140: Headlines: In Your Dreams

A popular mantra from the left today is “defund the police”.  That sounds so simple.  It would actually be a bit complicated.  There are multiple levels of law enforcement.  At the bottom you have the city police.  They are headed by a police chief that is usually appointed by the city council so they respond to that group.  I read that for all their talk in Minneapolis, the city charter requires the city council to maintain and support the police department.  Evidently they would need to have the people of Minneapolis vote a change in the charter to make that happen.  If the 16% support that has been claimed is true, good luck with that.

Then you have the county sheriff in most areas.  Everywhere I have been the sheriff is elected by the people in the county, elected not appointed.  That is important.  I assume there is a county board of some kind that supervises, but the sheriff is not a political appointee, he is elected.  If you don’t like what he does then vote him out.  If the local cities defunded the police then the county would step in because the vacuum will be filled by someone and the people who don’t live in the city will want order.  In California there were cities that had no police force or fire department.  They contracted with the Sheriff’s Department for coverage and the county for fire protection.

In Texas we have another level called the Constable.  I asked a Constable one time what the deal was.  He laughed and said that if you ever need to arrest a Sheriff you call the Constable.  I cannot figure out what their distinction is.

We also have a state highway patrol, the Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety.

Cities have the choice of forming a police force.  It is not required in Texas.  I guess that means they could do away with it too.  That would just shift the job to someone else and in the process I am sure that the taxes would be adjusted.  It would also pass the control away from the local city to another government agency.  It would be Law Enforcement Whack-a-Mole.

We life in interesting times, in the Chinese proverb sense.

Opus 2020-139: Thanks Thoughts: Patience

As I was sitting in the building dawn, listening to the birds and enjoying the coolness before the Texas day, I was being thankful.  I am so blessed that the range of gratitude is not capable of approaching adequate.

One point of thanks is always God’s grace and the salvation offered through the blood of Jesus.  That may seem weird to those who don’t believe.  I can understand that.  Today I was also struck by the patience of God.  It is a wonder that the human race has been allowed to continue.  I am a splendid example of that human race.  God is patient with me.

I rejoice in His patience and pray that I would challenge it less today.

Opus 2020-138: A New Breed

It is a good thing none of the present generation of Americans were on the Mayflower.  The Pilgrims would have turned back to Holland and found a cellar to hide in.  Why try for religious liberty if someone might die?  Even worse they might get their feelings hurt.

How would history have been different if people were not?

How about the Pinta, Nina and the Santa Maria?  Would Columbus have been able to get out of the harbor once the crews found out where he was going.  Didn’t he know that people died on long sea voyages?  Sometimes they died on short sea voyages.

What if the young man had not gone west?  People died in the western movement.  It wasn’t just Indians.  They had to deal with wild animals, from buffalo stampedes to wolf packs.  They had hunger and thirst, blizzards, floods, dust storms.  Disease was also a factor and if you were injured in any way there was a danger of dying.

What if Daniel Boone had stayed home?

What if William Travis had surrendered?

Life has risks.  Our big ones are getting coughed on and living in an area run by Democrats.  I am not worried about the first and have done my best to avoid the second.

Be brave.  Wash your hands.  Clean your guns.  Watch out for unicorns.

Opus 2020-137: Editor’s Pick

I recently began reading Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford.  So far I have just read the introduction by Francis Murphy.  Recently I had perused a pamphlet called William Bradford’s Letter Book with an introduction by someone named John C. Kemp.  I was struck by the totally different attitudes by the two men.

Murphy shows a clear understanding of who Bradford was and how he thought.  He grasps Christian theology and how it would shape the man.  His introduction was long enough to be informative and short enough that I did not skip it.  It made me willing to read the book.

Kemp seems to be someone who has had a steady diet of Politically Correct Punch.  Whereas Murphy is just identified as being from Smith College, Kemp has a grand and glorious title:  Associate Director of Colonial Interpretation at Plimoth Plantation.  I was so impressed that I almost didn’t bother opening the cover.  Not only do we have a Director of Colonial Interpretation but we seem to need an Associate.

Kemp quickly appeals for accolades in his PC orthodoxy.  Here is the second paragraph:
“Oddly, two things we won’t find here that we might most expect in a book dealing with William Bradford’s Plymouth Colony are Pilgrims and Indians.  There’s a good reason for the absence of Pilgrims.  That part of the story, the idealizing of colonists into Pilgrims (Pilgrims with a capital ‘P’) occurred in the late 18th and 19th centuries.  But there’s no good reason that the Letter Book should show so little concern for the Native People.  It’s a bad reason, a very meaningful omission.”  p. iii
Now it didn’t take me long at glancing through the book to get the feel that these were not all letters by Bradford but it was a compilation of back and forth correspondence between him and others.  More than half of the material is letters written to him, not by him.  I have not read it yet but I would assume that when you respond to someone you don’t introduce a lot of extra material.  If he was writing someone about a shortage of flour in their town I doubt if it would be the place for a long dissertation about the locals.  Also, I would assume that the local Indians and his neighbors would not be writing him letters to respond to.

Years ago I learned to not read primary sources that have been edited if the editing means that parts were cut out.  Modern editors have the attitude that is produced by being a Progressive*.  They are people who know what you need to know and want to make sure that you do not misunderstand.  Of course, it is all for your own good.

Opus 2020-136: A New Source?

When I come across a new source of information I always begin to explore it with a grain of salt in my craw over everything they say.  Are they presenting new or politically correct propaganda?  Sometimes it doesn’t take long to get the drift of a “news” writer.  Such was the case with Jacob Asmussen of Texas Scorecard.  The article had to do with the Austin City council being upset with the leadership of their police chief.  I was not familiar with the Texas Scorecard but figured it would be a chance to get their slant.

The basic groundwork was laid out in the second paragraph,
“The Austin City Council had an emergency meeting Friday to discuss the local police’s response to recent protests downtown, where violence broke out and numerous citizens were sent to the hospital with severe injuries.”
What struck me here was that these were “citizens” who had been injured.  It wasn’t rioters, looters, or even protestors.  It was citizens.  I get the picture of a group of Austin dwellers out for a casual stroll on a beautiful night and a raging hoard of police thugs attacked them for no reason.  The violence just “broke out”.  How sad that these citizens were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The next paragraph gets even more blatant,
“The protests were sparked by the murder of George Floyd in (sic) Minneapolis police on Memorial Day, an unjust killing that police departments across the nation, including Austin, have condemned.”
What happened to the word “alleged”?  It seems to me that the media are very careful to refer to accused suspects as “alleged murders”.  I thought that the trial was still in the future and that the arrested were entitled to be assumed innocent until proven guilty.  Yes, a man died.  Whether the police killed him is a question.  Whether he had done things to generate the treatment is also an open question.  From what I have seen it is a common police tactic to hold someone down this way.  I wouldn’t do it but I don’t have to deal with drug crazed thugs on a regular basis.

Then you have the quote,
“We’re seeing a movement right now where either Antifa groups or alt-groups are intermixing in with what are planned, peaceful protests and demonstrations for the purpose of violent or criminal activities or vandalism,” Police Chief Brian Manley old the city council on Friday.
What is with the “alt-groups”?  In your left wing dreams maybe.  They keep humming the tune about the white supremacists and such but no one seems to be able to find the words.  This has been clearly an Antifa choir from the beginning.

How did the citizens get injured?  The police fired some non-lethal bean bags into the crowd and, surprise, they hit someone.  It seems there were “horrific outcomes”.  I am guessing that no one was injured who had stayed home or was watching from a distance.

I don’t think I will be wasting a lot of time in the Texas Scorecard.

Opus 2020-135: The New Diaspora

I think I finally figured out the real conspiracy behind all the virus panic and woke rioting.  It is a liberal diaspora.  All of these virtuous Progressives* have been living in the world that they thought they were molding only to wake up and find out the world they were really creating.  It is a Stalinesk utopia.  The working, or non-working as the case may be, classes are revolting against the capitalist pigs that own the doughnut shops and neighborhood markets they used to shop at.

Power to the people!

That sounds good but where will breakfast come from if the local Starbucks is burned out?

This is going to force all these Progressives* to move away for their own safety.  The problem is that they still think it is all because of racist white people who live somewhere else.  They will take their mind-set, or lack-of-mind set, and move to my neighborhood and vote like they live in Minneapolis.  It won’t take long before they have totally destroyed the economies of the states that have been holding out.

It is a conspiracy and it will be a very effective one.  We need to reroute the wall to the north of Texas.

Opus 2020-134: Headlines: A Walk on the Wild Side

Why is Trump so popular among the deplorables?  There are a lot of good reasons.  He kept his promises.  He loves America.  He gets things done.  He is not a professional politician.  I am sure the list could go on but there is one reason he appeals to the smelly masses:  He has a pair.

I watched the video of him walking off the White House property on his way to visit the historic church that the insurrectionists had tried to burn.  Yes, he was surrounded by a small army.  Yes, they had cleared the area.  It was still a gutsy thing to do and people who love America sat up and cheered.  The icing on the cake was the screed put out by the snowflake Bishop who claimed to speak for Christians when she stood up for the rioters and criticized the President.

If you are not a Christian you might misunderstand one keep point:  Neither is she.

Pray for his safety and wisdom.

Opus 2020-133: Buddy, Got Some Change?

“You go to war with the army you have.”  I have seen that idea applied to many different scenarios lately.  It is a statement of truth.  An offshoot of that would be about the problems we are seeing in our leadership during the China virus panic and now the riots in our cities.  The sad truth is we go to war with the government we have.  I also believe that people get the government they deserve.  Keep in mind that the governors and mayors in the shut down states and burning cities tend to be Democrats and have been cheered on by the voters as they implement Democrat policy and reinforce Democrat values.  Have you had enough virtue signaling yet?

Keep in mind that the army changes.  They adapt.  If they don’t they lose.  At the beginning of World War II the Japanese had the finest airplanes and best pilots in the Pacific.  Our guys were blown out of the sky.  They fought on as the nation adapted.  By the end of the war things had definitely changed.  Think of the Civil War.  All the good generals went south.  It took Lincoln years for the Grants and Shermans to rise to the top.  If McClellan had remained in command the United States southern border would be the Potomac, not the Rio Grande.

It is time for the government to make changes.  We are at war for our lives as a nation.  Many people think that Rome fell because it was conquered by barbarians.  Not so.  By the time the Western Roman Empire finally came to an official end it had been infiltrated by the barbarians and the Romans had taken a cultural holiday.  Our barbarians are among us.  They represent a way of life in which the only acceptable result is a country run on Marxist principles.  They want a country like the Soviet Union became with a small group of powerful and wealthy elites at the top and the masses of people living in brainwashed poverty.  That is the goal of the Progressives*.  These people control about everything you read in the establishment press and that your children hear at school.

It is time for the government to change.  In this case the change goes back to the basic principles of the Constitution which involves the rule of law and people being responsible for their own lives.  Those changes start with us in the ballot box.  We cannot continue to elect the likes of Pelosi, Schumer and Romney on the national level.  We cannot afford to let so many of our states be run by the, if you will excuse the phrase, little Hitlers that have emerged to lay down their nonsense regulations.  The change depends on thousands of ballot boxes around the country.  If the people of Michigan, Wisconsin and New York are happy with their leadership then we may want to start talking about a peaceable division of the country between the coastal elites and the working class fly over country.  (Yes, I know that Michigan and Wisconsin are not on the coast.)

Change is coming.  If the Progressives* have their way we will all go down together.  If people wake up we will see the results of MAGA.  If we can’t agree maybe it is time to go our own ways.

Opus 2020-132: On the Street: “Fear Itself” Is Winning

Have you noticed the similarity between going to a restaurant and attending an Antifa rally?  People are wearing masks and either they are afraid to look you in the eye or they stare at you with hostility.

I have been out twice in two days.  It is not because I need to go out but the women in my life do have needs.  On Sunday we went to a high end restaurant for our 45th wedding anniversary.  On Monday I took my daughter out for her birthday to a Chipolte.  In both places we were greeted by thugs.

I don’t know if you have ever been to Flemings.  We went on Sunday because they have a special that weighs in at $55.  Usually the steak by itself costs that much.  Generally I find my throat closing up and a sense of impending doom when I go there.  The cost is ridiculous, but I am the only member of my family that feels that way.  So I shut up and go along.  We gathered in the parking lot and headed for the door.  Another couple was approaching at the same time.  They were in a different world that we were.  We were hugging, shaking hands and smiling.  They were walking bent over, casting furtive glances all around them and wearing masks.  They gave us a look that was half hostility and half fear.  It is the look you get from someone in the back seat of a police car as you walk by free and easy.

When we got inside we were greeted by either employees or Antifa trainees.  Since they did not attack I assumed employees.  Masks were everywhere.  We were given a room to ourselves.  The sense of fear was thicker than the steaks.

At Chipolte we were not even sure if we could go in.  The lights were on.  There were people moving around inside but we were not sure it they were employees or rioters that had come in the back door.  The employees all wore black shirts and black masks.  When we went inside every table except one had a little sign telling you it was out of service.  Ordering was a chore because a properly worn mask makes it hard to speak clearly.  We managed to get our food and make it to the one free table.

People.  We need to get over it.  We need to take the masks and set them aside for the next riot.  Either that or get ready to live the rest of your life not knowing if the person coming toward you is smiling or gnashing his teeth.  The China Virus Panic was a fraud perpetuated by a group of Progressives* who want to end America as we knew it.  Look at the numbers.  Do a little math.  Engage your memory.  Above all, think for yourself.

I would really like to know if the waitress is smiling or snarling.

Opus 2020-131: Cornerstone Considerations: CUSA, Insurrection

Seven years ago I wrote and referred to the responsibility of the Federal government to the states.  Seven years.  How time flies.
Article IV, Section 4

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened), against domestic violence.
There is another place that refers specifically to the role of the legislature.  I bring this up in regard to what we see happening in Minneapolis and in copy-cat fashion around the country,
Article I, Section 8

To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions.;
Notice it says to “suppress insurrections”.  What is happening in Minneapolis is not a protest.  It is insurrection.  It is blatant and organized opposition to the lawful government of the city.  You can pretty it up and dress it in a clown suit all you want but it is still rioting.  What happened when the armed citizens went to express their disagreement about how the governor was shutting down the state was a protest.  It was peaceful and clear in its purpose.  It was not their to start a revolution.  What is happening now is rioting and insurrection.

As I read the Constitution it is the legislature that is supposed to be responding.  I am sure there is some reason why the baton has been passed to the president.  Either way, it is the responsibility of the United States government to suppress this civil unrest that neither the city nor the state seems to want to deal with.

Deal with it.

Opus 2020-130: Headlines: Remember Rodney

As I sit on my hilltop in semi-rural Texas and watch the Democratic citadels burn I wonder if the savages are going to be coming for the rest of us.  It is strange how we never learn.

I remember the riots that erupted after the police who beat Rodney King were acquitted by a jury.  I watched in amazement as the police went for coffee and doughnuts and the violence spun out of control.  A simple strong response early in the rioting could have brought it to a halt without destroying a major part of the city.  I remember watching the fires move from liquor store to liquor store.  It was an obvious plan.  The entire city did not burn at first.  It was an organized group going for the expensive booze and setting fires to distract the authorities.  You could see the pattern.

I remember the concern that we felt twenty miles outside of town.  I won’t say fear because the communities the rioters would have needed to come through to get to us would have stopped them cold.  A real mob may be stupid but rioters tend to know what they are after:  The most they can get at the least risk.  A witness to that is the Roof Top Koreans.  The criminals in the street left them alone.  The guy waiting for the police to respond got burned out.

I see the same thing happening in Minneapolis.  This whole thing could have been stopped after a few hours if the police had been serious about stopping it.  If the police in other Democratic strongholds don’t wise up we will see the party continue at other venues.  In Texas we have the right to defend our homes and families.  It is one of the reasons I moved here.  Because we have that right and the thugs know it they will probably hop on a plane and head for greener pastures.

The right to defend yourself usually means you don’t have to.  As someone said, “An armed society is a polite society.”
