I go to Proof Positive for the daily cartoon and Quote du jour.  If you have not visited I am sure you would enjoy it.  One of the other features of the site is a feature called Medal of Honor.  In it Americas heros are remembered with a publication of the citations they received for their courage.  Today was about Staff Sergeant Salvatore Augustine Giunta. 

If you like action movies and adventure novels then you will enjoy this.  The difference is that this is real life and this is real courage.  This is why officers salute men like Sergeant Giunta.  It is worth a few moments of time.

Opus 2017-182: Just Another Left Wing Nut Job

One post I was reading at Trumpland was talking about the recent attempted mass assassination by a Republican hating Democrat used suggested he might just be “another left wing nut job”.  With and caveat that the right wing has its share of nut jobs, I would respectfully submit that the term “left wing nut job” is redundant.  If you doubt that then look at the way in which the Democrats in congress and the Democrats in the media are clearly nut jobs and all left wing.  They think Comey is a patriot American and Jeff Sessions is a Russian dupe.  That fits any definition of left wing nut job you might want.

Opus 2016-238: Reaping Is a Two Way Street

If you are one who likes short posts that have long thoughts you might take a look at Christian Ear.  It doesn’t take long and often has a thought to jump start your thinking. 

It hit me today as I read “The Benefits of Labor”.  I was expecting another Bible truth of sowing what we reap but she pointed out that it isn’t just,

(Galatians 6:7 KJV)  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

It is also that we reap the results of other’s labor.

That can cause me to rejoice in the ways in which God provides.  It also serves as a reminder that I have a responsibility to do my part so that others can reap their rewards.  We are tied together in common everyday ways.  If the baker does not get up early, I have no bread.  If the farmer does not plant, I have no bread.  If the truck driver takes the day off, I have no bread.  If the grocer stays home, I have no bread.  What happens when I am the baker who did not get up early?

I am thankful, not only for having work myself but for the work of others.  And Christian Ear said it faster.

Opus 2015-422: Link: Socialism from a Scientific Viewpoint

I found an interesting quote on Gun Free Zone.  You might find it interesting even if you don’t read gun blogs.  The article is more a general comment on culture than the right of self defense.  It struck home.  It is one of those phrases which you wish you had come up with but didn’t.  It summarizes why I don’t go to the LA or NY Times for news or information.

“It is much like having to go through sewage to find peanuts.” 

Not a pretty picture but accurate. 

Although this is a guest post on a gun blog it is about politics and culture.  The author uses his background in science to explain, using the Second Law of Thermodynamics, why the socialist approach to society is a guaranteed way for us to descend into third world poverty again.

It is worth a read.

Opus 2015-420: Links: Double Dose of Humor

I am always in for a little humor.  One of the sites I try to check every day is Mostly Cajun.  It has two features I would recommend.  The first is “Food for Thought”.  In it the blog makes a daily collection of political cartoons found on the web.  The second is “Today in History” which is obvious.  What is not obvious are the little O. Henry endings he puts at the end of many items.  Be sure to read to the end to get the humor.

Opus 2015-189: Links: A Catholic view of the Pope

Those of us who are conservative and not Roman Catholics are watching Pope Francis with a leery eye.  One of the problems with organizations that have powerful solo leaders is that you get a lot of variety in the job.  Down through history the Popes have run the gamut from genuine saints to criminals.  This one is somewhere in the goof-ball range.  He reminds me of our president in that he is a loose cannon easily manipulated by the elites on the left.

I enjoy it when a self-identified Catholic agrees with me.  You would not expect religious commentary on a gun blog like Gun Free Zone, but I think this one is quotable.

“I guess we Catholics are stuck with a Pope that is more intent on being 21st Century hip than actually tending to the spiritual needs of the flock. Instead of the Rock in which Church is built, we go[t] a pontoon to a Party House Boat.”

I could not have said it better but I will try later.

Opus 2014-61: Link: Ladies Only?

Christians and the world see things differently and act differently toward life.  On the Paratus Familia Blog I found that at the beginning of the post I was told not to read it since I was a man.  It was a post for women.  Naturally I had to start reading.

The text of the post starts off with these words:

“Ladies, modern society has us completely turned around.  We our taught to serve our children and shun our husbands.”

That got my attention.  I read a little further but the post was genuinely written for women so I didn’t finish it.  The point of view was refreshing and Biblical from what I did read.  It might appeal to you more. 

The thesis presented is an astute insight into our culture.  It is an important wake up call to the church.  We live in a schizophrenic culture which murders unborn children in the name of choice and makes excuses for all kinds of absurdities in society with the simple cry of “its for the children.”  This article might help your thinking from a prospective different than mine.

This is a blog I think I picked up from Gorges’ Grouse and bookmarked.  I don’t have as much time as I would like.  At work I am blocked from sites like this.  Sometimes I cannot access my word processor.  Today I was glad a few moments came together.

Opus 2014-41: Link: Time to Get Ticked Off

It is Saturday morning and I am looking at my links.  It is a way to keep from working.  I found an interesting post at “Mostly Cajun” that draws an interesting parallel between what ticks do to a healthy dog and what human parasites do to our society.

Here is a sample,

“Ticks don’t care. all they want is a lifetime of free meals so they can produce more little ticks. ticks are rather short-sighted. they don’t know or care that they’re robbing the host, eventually weakening it and killing it. They just keep eating and producing more little ticks.”

Opus 2014-8: A Silver Lining for Obamacare?

One of the blogs I check occasionally is called Big Lizard.  I check occasionally because he can go weeks without posting.  He tends to be a libertarian which means he could be a part of the Tea Party but is a Rhino on the moral issues.  Recently on his January 5 post called “Broken Clock”  he posted some ideas on health care.  I had heard them before but he presented them effectively.  If my interpretation is new to you, read the whole post.

In a nutshell, he says that the debacle of Obamacare could save health care in this country.  The act itself and recent actions by congress, are going to destroy the old system and push us toward socialized medicine.  That is the bad news.  The silver lining is that this may allow an entire new system of personal responsibility to emerge.  He sees a system of subscription developing where groups of doctors will open a member’s only service.  They would set a fee and establish what would be covered to be treated at no extra charge.  Members would then also buy a catastrophic coverage plan at low cost for major issues. 

A point he makes is that only in health care is daily maintenance considered a part of the insurance.  This does not happen in any other type of insurance.  Under this plan daily needs such as physicals and flu would be paid by the patient as you would pay for new tires and oil changes on your car.  Major issues would be covered by insurance.

See what he has to say if that sounds interesting.  The only addition I would make is that the Progressive elite would try to pass a law making it impossible to pay your own way outside the government system.  They did that in Canada and it led to open rebellion.

There are answers to the phoney health care crisis.  This is one good contribution.

Opus 2013-387: Headlines: If It Looks Like a Pogrom and Hacks Like a Pogrom...

I am off today for a visit to a doctor.  Nothing serious.  It gives me time to read the headlines and respond a bit.

On Drudge the big headline involves the Duck Dynasty “controversy.”  I put the word in quotes because it is really not shock over vulgarity but a pogrom over faith.  When a man who is used to speaking clearly is asked a specific question, don’t be shocked when he actually answers straight.  Phil Robertson used correct language to describe body parts and correct theology to evaluate the question of could and should.  For this A&E tries to spank his hands.

I rejoice to see the families response today.  The Drudge Report links to an article in something called “The Hollywood Reporter.” 

I confess, this is the only way they could get me to read anything in this publication.  According to them the family is pulling together and acting like Christians rather than be intimidated by the thugs in the media.  The article included the words I wanted to hear,

“The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision.  We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word.”

Good for them.

I shortly stopped reading after that because most of the article was a repetition of all the vitriolic attacks of the anti-Christian voices of the country.

Pray for this family.  Pray that they would be faithful.  Pray that they would maintain a position that will encourage the rest of us to live our faith instead of cowering in the shadows of paganism.

Opus 2013-380: CCC: Someone Else Gives a Warning

I don’t know if you have done any reading at The American Thinker website.  It has a lot of interesting essays, mainly political but on other topics at times.  I came across one that was looking at the Common Core Standards (CCC).

This post, called “Throwing Gasoline on a Fire” gives a fuller analysis than I have done so far.  I may repeat what it says over time but this is a good look from another source.

Opus 2013-248: Links: Political Parties Do Make a Difference.

Check out this post at Gorges’ Grouse.  It involves the Senate almost voting to give away the Second Amendment to the Constitution.  Make sure you check the party affiliation of the people voting to turn you over to the one world government.  Notice that the only one’s who do not have a “D” by their name have an “I” which probably should be “S” for socialist.

You say it doesn’t make a difference who you vote for?  Guess again.

Opus 2013-311: Become a Drop Out

As I was servicing my blog this morning I came across an important reminder at The Next Chapter.  He reminds us of the need to drop out of organizations that do not agree with us on important issues.  His comments are about AARP.  You might take it to heart about your favorite charity, political group or service organization.  Don’t join by mistake and continue to renew blindly.

Opus 2013-237:  Links:  What’s for Dinner?

Following links can be rewarding.  I believe I picked this one up from Gorges’ Grouse.  I bookmark and try to get back to check them out.  Sometimes I do.  Sometimes I don’t.

I spent a few moments reading a post on Double Nickle Farm.  The author was talking about fixing meals and made this comment:

“The food is not the star of the meal...the family is.”

I thought that was a thought provoker.  You might want to check out the entire essay.  Who knows, it might make your day.

Opus 2013-224: Links: Police Officers and Gun Control

One of the lies we often hear from the media and government is that police officers are in favor of more gun control.  I have often read that this is not true.  The political heads and leaders in left wing organizations with the name “Police” in their title are in favor of gun control, but not the cop on the street. 

I came across a statement to this effect by Massad Ayoob in Backwoods Home Magazine.

His discussion of this is in sections early in the article entitled “The View from the Street” and “Street Reality.”  Later on he explains why Police Chiefs come across more into regulation and sheriffs are more into the Second Amendment.
