Opus 2025-044: The Day After

Did you go to church on Sunday?  If you did, did anybody ever mention that it was a special day other than being Sunday?  Sunday was Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.  Sometimes it’s called Pro Life Sunday.  Did anybody mention it in Sunday school?  Was it mentioned from the pulpit during any part of the service?

If your church was not aware that this is the Sunday that the champions of life selected to remind us of the tragedy of Roe versus Wade, then that might be one of the marks that tells you whether the church is worth attending or not.  Roe versus Wade was overturned, true.  In reality, the battle goes on.  Thousands of children are being slaughtered every day.  That really adds up over time.

Ignoring abortion is not the only issue that a week church fails on, but it is an indication.  It might be a good litmus test, or it might be that for some reason, your church does everything right except for that.  Only you can be the judge, but I would guess that if you go to a church that ignores the issue of abortion or soft-pedals it or sugarcoat it, you will find other areas that are also falling short of what God wants for them.  It’s amazing how often common threads of thinking and values run together.

We need revival in the nation.  We need to stand up and be counted.  If you are going to a church that is overlooking vital areas of morality, cultural, compromise, doctrinal, deviation, or outright denial of the divinity of Christ then you need to be one of those clanging cymbals that are calling people back to truth.  Keep in mind that it’s not just the public square that needs revival.  The church is where it must start.  And one of the things I’ve been hearing regularly in the past few weeks at my church is that it must start in each one of us.

Pray for revival. Pray that it would start and you and me.

Opus 2024-381: Half a Loaf Philosophy

I think there’s a page from the liberal play book with conservatives should adopt and that is the philosophy of half a loaf is better than none.  Sounds simple but these are liberals.  They push that on and repeat it after they win.

So the liberals meet you halfway.  You have an agreement.  That is well and good.  And then they look at the half loaf that you have and start saying the same thing, “Half of what you have should be mine.”  And they start working on that philosophy.

This never stops and, half at a time, they gradually get down to where they have the entire loaf except for a few crumbs that were in the bottom of the bag.  We as conservatives and people of ethics, standards, and believing in the rule of law need to adopt that philosophy.

One place where this is clear is the area of abortion.  I believe that abortion is murder.  Murder is when you take the life of an innocent person for your own personal convenience.  That is the vast, vast majority of cases in abortion.  That having been said I am willing to be satisfied with half a loaf, today.

Tomorrow I’m quite willing to pass the ball down the field and try for another half loaf.  If we would adopt this philosophy in pursuit persistently we would end up winning that debate.

It might also encourage God to forgive us for some of our other evils.  I keep wondering how God would have dealt with Sodom if the 10 righteous had not been out of town on vacation.

Opus 2022-050: Follow the Rules

Progressives* as a group present a problem for humanity and civilization.  They are driving identity politics and all of its destruction through the institutions we live in.  It drives me crazy when people say they are really good people but just misinformed.  That is not possible.  I have come to the conclusion that they are either stupid, ignorant or evil.  I have written about that opinion before and will again, I am sure.  

What I want to suggest today is that we have to set aside the idea that they are stupid.  That can’t be the case.  They know what they are doing.  They are well studied on who traditional Americans are and they know exactly how to play us in order to win the game of politics.

These people know that we are guided by truth, justice and integrity.  They know that we will play by the rules.  They know that they can cheat and we will still play by the rules even if it means we will lose.  The most damaging demonstration of this is in the court system.  A clear example has to do with abortion and Roe v Wade.  The leftists on the court made up an entire new set of rights and privileges.  They ignored the fact that there was no precedent or even logic in their position.  So abortion became a new right declared by the Supreme Court.  They completely ignored all of the standards of the law.  They ignored science and biology.  They did this knowing that the conservatives would find it almost impossible to change because the standard is to evaluate new decisions on the precedent of previous decisions.  Thus by ignoring the law and creating a new precedent the left knew that they were winners.  

Fifty years later we are still waiting for a court that will overturn Roe v Wade.  I keep reading the optimists who think that maybe we are there.  Dream on.  The liberals know the rules and how to manipulate the conservatives.  We keep playing by what we think are the rules.  They keep making up new rules.

I think it is time we start playing by the real rules, the ones they play by.  It seems fair.  It even seems more honest that abiding by some old rules that don’t apply any more.  If we don’t we will never come out on top without violence and that means no one wins expect the ones out to destroy America.

Opus 2021-169: Headlines: Unwilling Liver Donors

The title of the article says it all, “Mid-trimester fetal livers are a rich source of CD34+/++ cells for transplantation”.  That is, it says it all if you are paying attention, can do simple math and know anything about pre-birth development.

It sounds so impressive to label something a “mid-trimester fetal liver”.  Now stop and think about it.  Most people know that pregnancy lasts approximately nine months.  One of the new terms in our culture is “trimester”.  It means that you break something up into three segments instead of two.  Semester is half a school year.  Trimester is a third.  

Enter conception.  The target is nine months down the road so the braniacs in our midst find it convenient to divide by 3.  The first trimester is months 1, 2 and 3.  The second is 4, 5 and 6.  The third is 7, 8 and 9.  Now I ask you, what is the number of the mid-trimester month?  Did you guess 8?  You get the prize, a wake up call.  

These ghouls are casually talking about the liver of a developing child who was aborted at 8 months.  If a baby is born at eight months to parents who have a conscience it will most likely survive.  If you take the liver out of any living mammal, they die.  

If you were not paying attention in the sanitized news media, Planned Parenthood was exposed as selling the body parts of aborted babies.  Planned Parenthood is supported by your local Democrat party.  We live in a sick world and sometimes the doctors are the sickest.

Opus 2021-110: Headlines: Living Phonies

I have watched with amusement and anger the outrage of a group called “Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden” have expressed their shock at being betrayed by Joe Biden on abortion.  Let me give you a slice of reality:  You cannot be pro-life or evangelical if you supported Joe Biden.  It’s like a vegan wanting their steak well done.  It is an oxymoron.  

Let me explain if it isn’t obvious to you.

Evangelicals are a group of Christian believers who are not denominational but are spread across most denominations.  An evangelical believes that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was physically resurrected to show that we have eternal hope.  An evangelical believes that the Bible is the word of God and we are expected to live by its teaching.  If you take any time to consider what the Democrats campaign on you will see that their platform is incompatible with the teachings of the Bible.  Just consider that the convention repeatedly refused to acknowledge the existence of God.

It is also impossible to be in favor of abortion and be a Christian.  The Bible is clear that unborn babies are people and bear the image of God.  To kill them is anything from manslaughter, in the case of accidental causing of a miscarriage, to murder.  In the case of Joe Biden, who claims to be a Catholic, it is very clear he should be excommunicated for his support of killing the unborn.

If you call yourself a pro-life evangelical and support a man who is clearly anti-life and anti God then it means you are either stupid, ignorant or evil.  

Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden?  I bet these people don’t even know the answer to, “Is the Pope a Catholic?” or “Who is buried in Grant’s tomb?”

Opus 2019-174: Headlines: Another Domino Is Falling

One of the concerns we used to express about abortion was that it was the first step toward euthanasia.  Consider it a prophecy based on a knowledge of human behavior not a spiritual revelation.  We submitted that if the life of the unborn child was treated cavalierly then people would be desensitized to the issue; that the line in the sand would be moved down the road.  When we lose respect for life then the next target is the old, handicapped and infirm. 

It has been the norm in some European countries for years.  In the Netherlands older people were afraid to go to the hospital because they might be terminated.  Check out what even CBS reported a year ago.  It has now come to the northwest in the United States.  Legalized euthanasia is one of the goals of the progressives. 

You may not worry about abortion because you already made it past the cut but keep in mind that you are getting older and the millennial generation may not be real happy paying to keep you alive.  It is amazing how many life saving procedures are available as long as someone will pay for them.  I am now on a pace maker.  I think the battery is supposed to last another seven or eight years.  Will Medicare still be willing to replace it when the need arises?  They already are avoiding testing for prostate cancer. 

Our culture is changing.  There is a growing willingness to give up on those who cannot defend themselves.  If they get me someday with a pill or injection then you need to realize that I went out with a smile on my face believing in the resurrection and having a hope in the world to come.

Opus 2018-021: Women’s Marches

Yesterday was “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday”.  I don’t like the title although I support the cause.  I don’t consider  a convicted serial killer on death row to have a sacred life.  I would even question whether such a person deserved the title of “human” any more.  To me the issue in abortion is the taking of an innocent life.  It is not a matter of choice.  The choosing was done when the sex act was performed. 

Abortion is evil.  Abortion is the ending of a human life for the convenience of another human.  By the time a woman knows she is pregnant the developing fetus has a beating heart, a nervous system, fingers and toes and facial features.  It has DNA that is different than the mother.  It is a living child.  To kill that living child because you suddenly decide you don’t want to have a baby right now is sick.

The red herring is the “rape and incest” theme.  Most of us who are pro-life would probably accept a compromise allowing that exception.  We would not like it.  The baby did nothing wrong and still has a right to life, but we would accept it.  After all, as the saying goes, 99.9 % of the loaf is better than none and the number of abortions done for that reason are no where near as frequent as Planned Parenthood would like you to think.

“The life of the mother” is worse than a red herring in this day and age.  I would guess that the abortion is more dangerous than the birth in this day and age.  The only real reason for the argument is what is called an ectopic pregnancy.  This is where the embryo attaches outside the uterus and will kill the mother as well as the baby.  Since the baby does not have a chance anyway most pro-life people I have met understand the necessity of an abortion in that case.

I remember going in for the sonogram when my son was just a “blob of tissue”.  The doctor showed us his beating heart, his functioning brain and his sense carrying backbone.  It was a lot of detail for what the media likes to call a blob of tissue.  At that point it was perfectly legal to have an abortion.

This date was picked to remember and mourn the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision Roe v Wade which threw out all the state laws protecting the unborn and made abortion legal for almost any reason.  It was a sad day for America and an even sadder day for the unborn.

Many of the “women’s marches” you are hearing about are really marches for the unborn.

Opus 2014-115: The Revival of Paganism, part 6 of 7, Indicators

Pagan culture is different from Christian culture.

Think of the pagan cultures of history and today.  Think of the values and morals:  Temple prostitutes, male and female, were considered normal.  The view of sex and family was definitely different.  Today we are seeing the culture become more violent and ugly.  Much of it runs in tandem with the breakdown in sexual mores as we move toward paganism.  

Infanticide was the order of the day.  Whether it was the followers of Moloch throwing their first born into a furnace or the Romans leaving their unwanted girl-children on the paving stones of the forum to die, children were expendable.  If they were a burden they could be disposed of.  

This attitude was extended to the rest of life.  In many pagan cultures if you murdered someone you could buy your way out of punishment.  I am not talking about justifiable homicide, I am talking about first degree murder. 

Women have always been looked at as part of the flocks in the pagan world.  In the ancient Middle East the Jews were the only ones that gave their women any status.  The veil that has been adopted by the Muslims was common for respectable women in ancient cultures.

Much of the change going on around you is a result of a resurgence of paganism.  Homosexuality is becoming accepted by those who don’t believe in the God of the Bible.  We have a mantra of “its for the children” and yet abortion is common.  Child abuse is growing.  We are accepting suicide and euthanasia.  Drugs are rampant.  Government officials think they are justified in doing anything so that liberty is dissolving.  Slavery, in the form of government control, is back.  Lies are accepted. 

Think about how George Washington or Clara Barton would respond to almost any popular TV program or movie.  They would probably call for the local law enforcement to deal with the perverts and sadists that were putting on what we consider normal entertainment. 

The changes are happening.  They may be so slow you haven’t noticed, but they are happening.

Opus 2013-216: Headlines: Stem Cells Are Not All the Same

I saw a headline on The Drudge Report that seemed to indicate that stem cells had been used to cure AIDS.  The headline of the article seemed to imply the same thing.  It was an interesting article about some medical experiments.  Two men were treated with bone marrow from someone resistant to HIV and they have been able to stop their anti-retroviral therapy.  So far it looks good.  That was the encouraging information.  Go team.

What caught my attention was the subtle slant.  The news media is playing the issue of stem cell research to advance a position.  In doing so they deceive the public and make it less likely we will see some medical breakthroughs.  Those of us that are concerned about the ethical issues involved in research have a problem with using the stem cells harvested from tissue produced from abortion.  We don’t like the idea of opening a door to killing in order to experiment.  It seems ethically wrong to us.

We have no problem with research done with stem cells gathered from adults.  That is the procedure in the article but that key fact is totally ignored.  If you read carefully and know what you are looking for it is obvious that it was adult stem cells.  If all you did was read the headline you would miss that totally.  Since all of the hype is in regard to fetal stem cells you would probably assume that lives were being saved by such research and thus the pro-life people are monsters who don’t want to save lives.

This is media manipulation.  It is dishonest without telling a lie.  My understanding is that there has been significant benefit from adult stem cell research and so far nothing but speculation, hope and hype on fetal cell stem cell research.  In reality the avenue of research that we have no problem with has produced valid results.  The one we object to has been a dead end.

I know which one makes more sense to me.  Why push a political agenda that forces resources in a non-productive direction at the cost of real progress?  It seems like a death with to me.

Opus 2013-29: RTL Sunday

Did you know that “abortion stops a beating heart”?  It does.  By the time a woman knows she is pregnant the child is a recognizable human being, tiny but recognizable.  It is not a blob of tissue.  If you don’t believe it check out some of the sonogram images.

Today has been designated Right to Life Sunday.  It is the day we remember the decision handed down 1973 by the Supreme Court in Roe v Wade.  Millions of children are not with us today because of that decision.  Millions of women are suffering emotional trauma because of that decision.  It ranks up with the Dred Scott Decision and Plessy v Ferguson.  It is another case that proves the court is not always right.

Some people designate it “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.”  I do not like that title.  It commemorates a multiplied tragedy.  Abortion is an evil on our world.  I don’t want to take anything away from that but I don’t like the word “sanctity” being used here. 

Life is not sacred in the sense that it is to be maintained at all cost.  It is precious.  It is guaranteed in the Declaration of Independence.  But it is a part of the package.  If life was sacred then all of the soldiers, firemen and police officers that have given their lives in service to others would be just a joke.  They would have thrown away something precious for nothing.

When a soldier dies protecting his country he gives his life for the greater good.  When a citizen sacrifices their life to save a child from a careening car, he has done a noble thing. 

On the other side, although I believe abortion is wrong I have not problem with capital punishment.  Certain crimes deserve the death penalty.  It is not to be administered lightly or without safe-guards but a serial killer does not deserve to live on the tax payers’ dime for decades.  I do not believe it is inconsistent to be against abortion and for the death penalty.  One takes an innocent life for personal convenience.  The other rids society of evil. 

Millions of innocent children killed.  Unmeasurable talent destroyed.  A blot on the soul of the nation.

Now you know how I feel about it.

Opus 2011-357, Is Life Sacred?

I am pro-life.  I believe that abortion is the killing of a human being.  Homicide can run the gamete from first degree murder to justifiable.  It depends on the situation.  The vast number of abortions are first degree murder.  A life is taken by calculation and planning for personal convenience.  At the other end you have an ever shrinking blip of cases where the physical life of the mother is honestly at risk.  With modern medicine this is rare, but it happens.  I believe one form of this is called octopic pregnancy where the egg lodges in the fallopian tubes and is guaranteed to kill the pregnant woman.  In these cases you must take one life so both don’t die.

Abortion is sin.  Abortion is evil.  Like all sin and evil it can be forgiven and grace can be applied.  The emotional scars can be worked with.  Life can go on and redemption is possible.

Why do I bring this up now?  We have the annual “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday” approaching to draw attention to the anniversary of Roe v Wade.  I salute the purpose of the event.  We need to be reminded of how the Supreme Court opened the door to a blood bath and millions of babies have died for a right not mentioned in the Constitution. 

I have trouble with the title.  I do not believe that life is sacred.  That is what it means to talk of the “sanctity” of life.  To call something sacred puts it on a level that is above all else.  If life was sacred then risking your life to save someone else would be wrong.  If life is sacred then we would be free to lie, cheat and steal to protect it.  If life is sacred then all those who have laid it down in service to their country or community made a mistake.  If life is sacred then all those who gave up their lives as martyrs and witnesses sinned.  We might even go so far as to say that Jesus had no business going to the cross.

Life is precious.  Life is fragile.  Life is important.  Life is not sacred. 

Am I nit picking?  Maybe, but words are important.  Let’s take a stand against abortion, not because life is sacred, but because taking life for personal convenience is wrong.
