Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-444: Good Morning, Zimbabwe

As I was reaching out to the mind of God and contemplating His grandeur , it came to me that I am not the only person doing this.  I started in a general sense of wondering how many people there were around the world contemplating the glory of God at that moment.  Then my science fiction mentality slipped into place and I began to think in terms of time travel, and how God is outside of time.  I began to think of how all around the world there were people who were sitting out on their figurative front porches, looking at their particular vision of God’s creation and glorifying Him.

It brought me to a new understanding of the concept of “communion of the saints” which we repeat in the Apostles’ Creed.  As I sit on my porch in the dark, listening to the traffic over the hill and noticing that the sky is beginning to lighten a little bit, I realize that all around the world there are people doing the same thing.  We’re not aware of each other.  We are aware of God.  That’s the way worship should be done whether it’s on my front porch at 5 AM or in morning worship at 10:30.  I am communing with my brothers and sisters in Christ as I commune with God.  There is an awareness of this worldwide fellowship.

I think of someone sitting outside a thatched hut somewhere in Africa, rejoicing in the God of his salvation.  It’s funny how we always start with Africa.  I think of someone in a Swiss village high in the mountains, perhaps looking at the Matterhorn and marveling at the creativity of God.  I think of a Mongol Christian sitting outside his yurt contemplating the Gobi desert and looking at how God could take browns and yellows and distribute them in such an awesome display.  It could be even somebody on the next ridge over looking at the same valley I am contemplating.

I am rejoicing in the communion of the Saints.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
