There seem to be people out there who feel at the United States is the God’s chosen people, replacing Israel. I don’t know that I’ve ever actually met any, but I keep hearing about them. In no way, shape or form do I think of the United States as being appointed as God’s chosen people. Having said that we have been blessed by God in a positive way because there have been so many believers mixed into the population. We have been salt. And the salt content has been enough to preserve and prosper.
While we are not Israel, the principles that applied to Israel can often be applied to us. People that respond to God’s guidance and standards are blessed by God. People who reject them are cursed by God. As I said before, sometimes that courtesy is simply a withholding of the blessing rather than an active force, but it is still relatively speaking a curse.
So America is following steps of Israel. Unfortunately, we are following the steps that brought God’s condemnation upon Israel. All through the prophecies and the histories God is pleading with His people to be obedient. He’s begging them to abandon the gods of paganism and the values of pagan society. He’s offering to forgiven and restore. What does Israel do? They double down on their rebellion.
That’s pretty much where the United States is. As I write this, we are in the midst of voting in the midterm elections. It seems to me the choices are incredibly clear. It’s hard to believe that anyone with an ounce of moral fiber would ever vote for anything Democrat. The Republicans may not be on the side of the angels, but the Democrats are definitely on the side of Satan. How will this turn out? I have no clue. It will be an indication, though, of whether God is going to continue to bless this nation or is going to allow us the accelerating slide in into chaos, despotism and tyranny.
I am full of hopeful optimism for myself and for mine. As far as I can tell, just about everybody, I care about is living faithfully. My belief is that even if chaos reigns, God will find a way to protect His people and to keep the bubble of Providence around us.
A lose-lose situation becomes a win-win.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.
