Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-459: The Daily Coincidence

Yes, this is another one of those sunrise meditations.  I was impressed this morning with the glorious mixtures of colors produced by the clouds, the horizon, the depths of space, the anticipated sun and the glory of creation.  It was a beautiful morning.

The thought crossed my mind that God could have created the universe in such a way that mornings would always be boring.  Let’s face it, there are some mornings where there’s nothing particularly exciting.  The sun comes up.  It’s time to go to work.  The sun is in my eyes as I drive.  All that is there at times, but that’s not the way it was designed.  It was designed to be glorious.

God could have made the light to come through the clouds a dull gray.  He could’ve set the world up, so there were no clouds on the horizon in the morning.  He could have done all kinds of things.  Instead, He gives us beauty and glory.  I don’t think that’s an accident.  I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that all the laws of physics, cold and dry, work together to produce incredible beauty.

I remember listening to a discussion between a mathematician, a biologist and a philosopher, and one of the things they came up with was a philosophical idea that I’ve heard before, and that was the beauty of new discoveries.  They made the point that when a mathematician discovers something new that they have a sense that is right because there is a beauty to it, a rightness to it.  The other scientist and philosophers agreed.  One of the measures that even scientist will use on whether their theory is worth investigating or not is an inner sense of rightness.

I doubt if they would make that the topic of their talk if they were dealing with the issue of creation, but it’s still there.  Today was a scientific miracle.  The light of the sun was fractured and spread out in different frequencies.  The frequencies mixed, matched, and contrasted.

The Daily Coincidence might be a good name for a newspaper.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
