The picture of God as Father has always appealed to me. I think one reason is because my father was such a positive influence in my life. He was not out witnessing on street corners or making big speeches. What he was doing was always being there and always providing. The balance between righteous judge and benevolent role model was always there.
I tried to model that as a father. Of course I modified it to fit my personality but that is part of the unique qualities we have as creatures made in the image of God. I will not say that I considered changing diapers or having a baby empty her stomach on me as moments of joy, at least not at the moment, but looking back they were times that created memories and built the character of children.
One Father’s Day my grown daughter gave me a sign that said something to the effect that good fathers get promoted to Grandpa. I glory in that promotion. We see enough of our grandchildren that I never feel left out but the spacing is such that I can just enjoy watching them. Because my children are on the job, I can sit back and relax. I can fill in the gaps instead of being the prime mover. I can be a spear carrier instead of the hero.
I wonder if God is able to move on to that level of relationship. Are we like grandchildren who can climb up on a lap and relax in total security one minute and then leave to get immersed in a Lego project the next. Of course when you can’t get one of those little pieces to come off it is time to see Grandpa again. I think the admonition to “pray without ceasing” was given for our benefit, not God’s. We do not complete Him. He does not need us. I think we are a source of joy. In some strange way I think we supply serendipity to His eternity.
I hope He views it as a promotion.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
