I just returned from a road trip. At the turn-around point I spent three full days in dialogue with my MAD (Mid-Acts Dispensationalism, his acronym not mine) friend. I use the term “dialogue” a bit tongue in cheek but it will suffice.
It was three days of frustration and well as three days of stimulation.
The frustration comes from trying to understand someone who has a very narrow understanding of the Bible and who seems at times to be bordering on heresy if not fully commited to nonsense. We have some basic foundational differences that are hard to get beyond. I believe that the central point of scripture is the cross followed by the resurrection. He is adamant that the entire Bible is about the restoration of Israel in the final age. I believe that Paul meant all scripture in II Timothy 3:16 while he maintains that if Paul did not write it then it does not really apply to us.
The stimulation comes from being forced to reinvestigate my memory and assumptions. So far I have not found myself in error on the foundations. I have in the process had sudden serendipity moments when I see things I had not noticed. This usually happened as he droned on after saying, “Will you let me finish my sentence?” Unfortunately his sentence is a run-on that sets new records in how long you can speak without taking a breath. I also found that when he would cast some pejorative accusation I would start by denying it and, as I found out what he meant, realized that his put down was a back handed compliment. At first I denied being into “replacement theology”. When I learned what he meant I embraced the concept and began to explore it.
My family wonders why I continue. I sometimes ask myself the same question. That is because they only see the frustration side while I have both. We all can benefit by someone who does not agree with us.

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.
