Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-367: Uncharted Revelation: Seals and Altars

In chapter seven we have a pause in the opening of seals.  It will pick up again in chapter 8.

Verse one has four angels holding back the four winds.  Since the four winds are a poetic reference I would assume that the angels are also poetic.  Either way the point is that God is holding back the wind.  I don’t see any great theological truth here.

Verses 2-4 give more questions than answers.  After loosing the four horses to create mayhem we have another angel coming and telling them to hold off,

(Rev 7:3 KJV)  Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
Then we have the 144,000, 12 from each tribe.

At the beginning of this series I said it would be uncharted but I am starting to see why people who have the final answer on Revelation need their charts and graphs.  I could use a big white board with arrows right now because things seem to be repeated and contradicting.  We have already seen the souls that were under the altar who were given white robes and told to go back to sleep.  Are they part of the 144,000 or part of the next group in chapter 7 which includes the whole world?  How come the seal is coming so late?  Are the ones under the altar sealed?

Am I the only one confused?

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
