I recently was seduced by click bait of a Bible teacher who proposed to explain Revelation 20. It was generally interesting and I plan on finishing it but it brought a question to my mind: Why? That is a “why” in “Why bother?” If you are a die hard dispensationalist or a Revelation junky you may be angry or puzzled by the question but something occurred to me as I tried to puzzle my way through the study being presented. I asked myself what the down side was of never understanding Revelation. To be honest I could not find any serious consequence.
It seemed like an addiction to cross-word puzzles or an addiction to win a lottery with a prize of 10 cents. A lot of Revelation addicts seem to think that coming up with the right eschatological plan will insure that Israel will be guaranteed a place at the table in the end. They have the idea that if one single point is out of order it will condemn the mistaken to hell. It reminds me of some of the computer games I used to play. The first few levels were interesting but they would eventually get to a point where progress could only be made by investing more of my life than I was willing to give up. And what was the pay-off? You got to buy their next game.
I think that it will be interesting to know what the Seven Eyed Jesus means but I am willing to wait for the resurrection to find out. Until then there are other issues like the gifts of the Spirit or defining agape. I would submit that understanding Romans 12:1-2 is more important than knowing if things will be pre or post.
