Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-381: Why Not?

I had the opportunity to preach last Sunday.  I’m not an evangelist, but I do believe that people need to be reminded that they need to accept Jesus and to move into the kingdom of God.  So at one point in my sermon I came to the fact that many people in the congregation had not allowed God to begin the good work in them.  This is from Philippines 1:6.

The question of course is “Why not?”  It’s not that they never had an opportunity in our church.  Almost every sermon that is preached I would put into the category of “Turn or Burn”.  There’s a little bit of teaching that goes along with it, but that’s the major theme every Sunday.  If you have not allowed God to begin a good work and you, lack of opportunity is not a real good reason.

Why is it important to make that decision?  There are two different directions you can go on this.  First, you may put it off so long that the end comes and you’re not prepared.  That should be obvious.

The second reason, which in many cases is more important, is that God cannot begin to do a good work in you and perfect you in Christ Jesus if you haven’t made that decision.  If you make the decision now, then the potential for blessings starts counting in reality.  God can pile up the blessings quicker and faster than you can read the benefits.  If you make that decision today, then it starts building immediately.

Think of the concept of compound interest.  If you’ve ever seen the charts, or talked to anybody who’s into investing, it’s very important to start a regular savings plan early in your life.  Give compound interest a chance to build.  You can’t make it up later with large contributions.  So if you happen to be one of those who has not made that decision yet I invite you to confess your sense of Jesus, believe that He died for your sins and that you can be forgiven, declare him your Lord, believe in the resurrection and start moving forward into that that Paul talks about.

(Php 1:6 NAS77) For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
