If I am ever at dinner with you in a restaurant and put you on my right hand side, you need to understand that is the place of honor.
Historically, the right hand is the seat of honor. If you were having dinner with the king being seated at his right hand meant that you were the highest in regard amongst the diners. When you put flags up the American flag is supposed to be on the right. It’s a fairly standard idea. I’ve heard that it comes from the need in a battle for the king to have someone on his sword side to protect him from spears and missiles and such. On his left, he would have a shield, but he would be vulnerable on the right hand side, and so his bodyguard or the person he trusted the most would be on the right hand side.
That has nothing to do with me putting you in the seat of honor.
For me, it’s a matter of being able to hear you. I have noticed for years that the hearing in my right ear is better than the hearing in my left ear. As I get older, the difference is more pronounced. If I’m distracted by the snoring coming from someone else in the room, I can turn over, put my right ear into the pillow, and be able to sleep. If I put my left ear in the pillow, I’m afraid the noise keeps me awake.
So if we’re out to dinner, I have any control over the situation at all and I value what you might have to say, I will try to get you on my right hand side. Usually, I don’t have that kind of control and I just go with what fate hands me. So if I don’t seem to be hearing what you’re saying, check and see which way my head is turned.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.
