Opus 2026-415: Click Bait: Look for the Silver

Somewhere in the past two months a famous pastor put out the word.  Before I share the word, let me tell you that I have a high regard for this pastor in general.  He stood up to the government overreach during the covid nonsense.  He has a high view scripture.  I would put him as one of the great men of God of our ages.  I would also disagree with them on many theological points.  He is in that niche.

His word was basically that a rich Muslim family had bought the largest Biblre publisher in the world and that we needed to take action.  He later backed off from that and tried to qualify what he said, but that’s pretty much what it was.  It didn’t seem right to me when I heard it and eventually, I found out that it was simply a family from Saudi Arabia had bought 7% of a parent company which a couple of layers down was invested in Bible publishing.  By the time the announcement was made for the family had sold most of what they bought.

All that is just part of the excitement of Clickbait and the Internet.  I did listen to the click bait because it was an issue I cared about.  It got me sucked in.  Sometimes you need to risk the wasted time.  The word that he added, which was probably the focus of what he wanted to say really, was buy a Bible.  Now that seems rhetorical.  It’s hard for me to believe that people don’t have Bibles.  But his warning was one that we need to take to heart.  We need to make sure that we have a good supply of different translations available to us in hardcopy.  We need to buy bound volumes of Strong’s Concordance.  It is available I know at least in the KJV and NASB.  We need to get hard bound, paper, credible resources that we can put on our shelves or, for that matter, in boxes under the bed.  

As much as the hype is hype, there is a real danger with modern technology from people who hate God and who hate the United States will go into all the files in the world and change what they say.  If you watched or read 1984, the job of the main character was to go back through all the computer files, revising the history to match whatever the party said was true today.  That included newspaper archives.  He even had to go change things that he knew we’re not true because he’d experienced him.  I’ve seen that.  I have had books removed from my electronic devices without my permission, or without my knowledge until I found out later.  My Kindle was not connected to the internet and I keep it on airplane mode.  Any files I had with 1984 in the title disappeared.  It is a real problem.

So don’t panic.  Don’t run around yelling that the sky is falling or that the kooties are coming.  Just as you would prepare by buying dried beans and canned vegetables, invest in hard copies that may someday be impossible to find.
