Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2018-113: On the Street: Vulture Envy

Have you ever been jealous of a vulture?

I was sitting out on my porch playing my guitar as the day faded.  It was cloudy and very windy.  If you were in a bad mood it would be dismal.  If you had watched a horror movie you would have been convinced that something wicked this way came.  Since I had a porch, a guitar and a view I was enjoying the moment.  Then I noticed the vultures and got a bit jealous.

I am told their correct name is turkey vultures and they are usually busy working to clean up the highways.  Today they were obviously not hungry but they were rejoicing in their niche in creation.  They were soaring, diving, ascending and just rejoicing on being vultures on a windy day.  They were probably laughing at me because I was stuck on the ground.  At one point a few went by to see if I was road kill.  I wanted to get up and join them.

It was not to be.  I probably would not have enjoyed their idea of dinner either.

  1. Their heads are ugly, but their flight is beautiful.

  2. It's funny, I was admiring some of our local vultures yesterday, while I sat on the porch. So very high, I thought they couldn't possibly be looking for anything to eat. Anyway, have a good week!

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
