Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2018-123: GPS Walk

It has been around 50 years but I still remember the faith walks.  It was part of a college Psych class and was all the rage.  You would submit to a blind fold and have someone else lead you around the campus and you would trust them to keep you safe.  On the secular side it had to do with being able to trust other people.  The spiritual lesson for Christians was to illustrate the idea of walking by faith.

In current culture this is lived out every day by people who would reject the whole idea of walking by faith.  In this case it is the GPS interface that is being trusted.  If you are one of the few who have never used them they can also inform you about road conditions and traffic flow.  If you have blind faith you will find yourself being led around the barn to get in the front door.  If you insist on following every direction you will find yourself driving into ditches when your phone tells you to turn left and the road goes right.

When it works as intended it is a perfect example of what it means to walk by faith.  You will get directions and they may take you in a way that makes no sense to you but the GPS knows things you don’t, just as God knows things we don’t.  One of the problems my wife has when I try to use it involves the fact that she wants the phone to tell her things it is not ready to tell her.  She wants to be in charge.  When dealing with cyber gods I agree with that.  When waiting on the God of the universe I need to learn patience.

Technology imitates life.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
