Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2025-584: Gun Requirement Zone

I would suggest that perhaps Americans should start avoiding places that don’t allow them to go armed.  In a typical Texas crowd the classroom at Brown University where the shooter went in and just started popping off rounds would’ve had a number of people able to draw their weapons and neutralize him.  I can remember other examples of this avoidable tragedy.  Sadly that does not happen in “Gun Free Zones”.

Why are some people so afraid of responsible citizens being able to respond to criminals?

If we cannot get a nationwide movement with large print signs saying, “Guns Welcome” or ‘No groups allowed without at least one firearm in their midst” then we might at least make it happen on an individual basis.  We have a grocery store called Sprouts in our area.  I used to stop by for coffee or fruit when it was on sale.  I like to walk around and see what the tree huggers were buying and occasionally try something new and strange.  One day as I was entering I noticed a sign on the window saying that firearms were not allowed, concealed or open carry.  I don’t think my pocket was heavy that day but I decided that as a matter of principle, I would not shop at that store any more.

I doubt that my decision did much to their bottom line but if enough people took that stand they would eventually notice.  Of course to make it really effective we would need to send a note to management about our decision.  If they were really committed it might not make any difference but when they had to close that location it would certainly make the neighborhood safer.

One of the sad truths of our culture is that there seem to be a lot of people who pontificate but few who will change their behavior.  If everyone who claimed Jesus as Lord would stop doing anything that directed money toward Disney and would drop them a line to that effect they would know why their revenues were falling.

It might be that they are a lot like many Christians, their bottom line is more important than their values.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
