A thought came to me as I was contemplating a statement by Jesus,
John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.It made me go down a rabbit trail and ask myself, “Is it necessary to come to the Father to be saved?” It may be a silly question but it popped up anyway.
When the Jews would bring their sacrifice to the temple and would achieve atonement through that sacrifice, did that mean that they came to the Father or simply that this was a type that temporarily filled in because Jesus had not died yet on the cross?
I sense a danger of wandering into the field of hypocrisy and heresy here. It’s still a serious question. It’s a question that might be important because there is always that mystery of how the blood of an ox or a goat can be instrumental in forgiving sin and making us a right before God. The word atone is used. I know that at least Psalms is full of the idea of forgiveness. And yet Jesus had not paid the price, yet.
One of the puzzling details of the Bible is that we believe people like Moses made it to heaven? How? He appeared before Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. That must mean something about his eternal destiny. I think God’s avenues toward salvation are more varied than we assume. We know they travel through Jesus and the sacrifice of the Perfect Lamb of God but there is a lot of frontage road along God’s interstate. This is not an idle question, it came up last Sunday in Sunday School.

Good question and as I see it In the O.T.we see Christ represented and it all leads us to where God sent us Hih Son. Christmas, the Incarnation . “If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.” Jesus told us in John 5:46. All fulfilled that first Christmas after a very long wait. Now we await His coming again. The thrill of hope!
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how consistent the two testaments are. I guess that is what you would expect if God is the editor.
