Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2025-450: I Am Ready

Ready for what you ask?  Or maybe you don’t ask, but I’ll tell you anyway.  I’m ready to start celebrating Thanksgiving.  Of course I do this on a regular basis.  You might want to try it.  Get up a little early, find a place where the presence of God is easy to sense or comprehend, and spend a little time concentrating on the blessings in your life.

This morning, as I was just starting off and thinking about how focusing on God could bring everything into perspective, a chorus came to mind.  I’m going to try and get the words right, if I don’t, deal with it.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
I could choose to focus on my thorn in the flesh.  I could choose to focus on my failures.  I could choose to focus on my creaky joints and my stiff muscles.  I could get upset that my coffee is getting cold.  There are many things to focus on if I’m ready for a pity party. I don’t know about you, but I am always too willing to have a pity party.

I find, though that if I listen to what God is saying to me, focus on Him, and start thinking about who He is, and how He blesses me then, the things of earth grow strangely dim.

Try it, you might like it.  There is no reason to wait until the end of November.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
