Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-295: Cheaters Seem to Prosper

Are we going to need to accept cheating as the new normal?

One of the unavoidable elements of democratic forms of government is power brokers finding ways to cheat in the election.  To be fair that is not just reserved for democracy.  I am sure that the other forms have it also.  I don’t think it is being pessimistic to assert that we will never be able to have totally honest elections.  I guess even that needs definitions.

Progressives* would probably say we can have honest elections but they do not mean what a well balanced, moral person means.  For them an election is honest if they win.  It is as simple as that.  Bribery, coercion, false results, ballot box stuffing, voting often, none of these are dishonest if they do them.  Keep in mind that in the mind of the left right and wrong are simply a way of measuring victory.

People who embrace the Christian way of thinking, even if they would not call themselves Christian, tend to believe that 2 + 2 = 4, period.  It doesn’t matter if you need 3 or 5 to make your computer model work.  One answer is right and any other is wrong.  Part of this philosophy is that man has a tendency to do the selfish thing.  In theology this is called original sin, the carnal nature or depravity.  The Founding Fathers knew this.  That is why we have checks and balances.  That is why we are a republic, not a democracy.

Cheating is universal.  What is unique about culture in the West is that its Judeo-Christian roots say that cheating is wrong.  So how do we deal with people in control rejecting that value?  What do you do when the government officials, courts and law enforcement all feel like you are a chump for thinking your voice and vote matter?

If Biden wins this we may be forced to find out.  We may be forced to force.  It is a dangerous road to go down.  Lets keep hoping we can work this out by the rule of law and reason.  It is a sure thing that they will ignore both.

  1. Sad but true. Only time will give us the answer.

  2. The 2020 election was bought on Nov 9,2016. The Dems spent the last 3.5 years buying people and threatening people and plotting. Plotting with all the best thugs and liars and lawyers. Covid was the ultimate gift that sealed the deal. The former VP never really campaigned. Neither did Harris. Because they knew the election was in the bag. I am still numb and overwhelmed about the changes coming. We are Christians and I know the Lord has this. I really know HE knows how this will turn out. But as a country we will never recover from these last four years. I include the Clinton,Bush,Obama years that slowly but surely brought Trump the win in 2016. We elected someone NOT in the swamp. I am thankful for the last four years of a decent man who just loves his country and his family. I pray for their safety.
No matter who is finally the winner, we are a country deeply divided. We are a country that will get used to the new normal of isolation, violence, and thuggery.

    1. You seem to be paying attention.

The only thing that bothers me about the division is that the Christians seem to have fallen asleep and the pulpits have been filled with compromise. We have always been a divided country, picture the animosity between Hamilton and Jefferson, but my fear is that the salt is losing its savor.

      Grace and peace

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
