I was asked the question again. “Why do you know so much?” I point out that I don’t know so much, it is just in comparison to them it seems that way. And of course I give the same reasons why I know as much as I do.
I listen.
I read.
I think.
All three of these are foreign concepts to middle school children. Unfortunately they are also illegal aliens to the minds of must adults I meet.

I have always seen the job of teachers as one of teaching others HOW to learn and think (as opposed to WHAT to think). Keep on being a good example, and maybe some of them will catch on.
ReplyDeleteThere is even danger in the teaching how to think. The new Common Core Curriculum is all about how but is based on conformity and group think rather than individual work.
