Most people are familiar with the term “Hump Day” referring Wednesday. Hump Day indicates we are halfway through the week and heading for the weekend. In a sense it reflects people’s hopes about having some relief and some fun.
Today as we celebrate what some people call Easter, we need to realize that it is the ultimate relief. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. At one end of the life of Jesus on Earth we have Christmas where are we celebrate the incarnation. At the other end we have Easter where we celebrate His victory over death. Notice that life did not end in the grave. It did not end with a diagnosis of cancer. It did not even end when we were teenagers and the girl rejected us.
Hope has been offered to all of us. Those who trust in Jesus have the assurance the grave is not the end, the hospital bed is not the end, that no tragedy we confront is the end. We have the hope of the resurrection and eternal life.
Like you, I am surrounded by seeming tragedies. In truth they are serious roadblocks in peoples lives. We must be careful not to be cavalier. I know of couples were both the husband and wife are facing life-threatening situations. I know of people who are dealing with cancer and going through chemo. My brother is in a nursing home and we don’t know what direction that’s going to go. We are surrounded by the potential for despair and tragedy. Generally, people can be divided into two camps. Some have no hope. Life ends at the grave. Their future is in the hands of medical professionals and family. Others facing situations just as serious know that their lives are in the hands of God. Guess which group are more inclined to know joy, peace, and hope.
Enjoy your Easter egg hunts. Celebrate with your families. Worship and lift your eyes to the heavens. At all times keep in mind what our hope is focused on.
Blessings on you and yours.

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship
This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.
Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.
