Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2017-308: Headlines: Compromise or Warning?

The Washington Times has an interesting editorial by Charles Hurt.  He is responding to the way in which Trump went around the Republicans and made a deal with the Democrats on the budget and relief for Hurricane Harvey.  I was not happy with the deal.  I hope this is just another step in Donald Trump’s education.  I don’t think he understands yet that he cannot believe anything the Democrats tell him.  I remember George Bush I promising “no new taxes” and then he trusted the Democrats when he made a deal with them.  He pretty much destroyed his presidency then and there.

I am not worried about Trump destroying his presidency.  He is a fighter and resilient enough to get back on his horse after he hits the ground.  My hope is that he will realize his mistake and get back on course.

The points made later in the editorial are what stirred my thinking.  Hurt pointed out how the President has been trying to work with congress in fulfilling his promises to America.  Everything he promises is consistent with the principles of the Republican party.  As a reward the Senate and Congress have achieved very little and spend their time jumping on the bandwagon to lampoon him.  You can read the summary.  It is good.

My hope in this is that Trump is not falling for the smiles and love-hugs of the left.  My hope is that he is firing a shot across the bows of the Republican Rinos and saying, “If you won’t play with me I can find other friends”.  I am hoping that this is a warning.  I hope that Ryan, McConnell and the rest of the establishment realize they had better stop stabbing the president in the back and start supporting what the American people want.

Trump has moved things forward in spite of congress.  Just imagine what could happen if they were actually worried about being reelected.

Meanwhile, as a general principle, vote the suckers out.

  1. I think he's showing the republicans that if they don't do their jobs, they can become irrelevant.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
