Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2015-221: 8th Grade Theology

One observation I have made involving 8th graders is that they are good at flying the flag of their religion but don’t have a clue to what they are talking about.  Generally they don’t live like they know what they are talking about.

Over the years a have had a number of Muslims, many Jehovah’s Witnesses, a few Hindus and a couple of Buddhists.  Most of their parents are okay with me asking them questions but the parents will often say, “They don’t know anything.”

I can live with that.  What I have problems with are people who are very verbal about their religion but obviously don’t know anything about it.  Being a Christian I am most familiar with what that involves.  I am familiar with what the Bible teaches.  I have no problem with someone saying “Praise Jesus.”  My problem is the string of four letter words that come in the next breath and the pattern of lies that come so natural.  These are not the pattern of someone who knows Jesus.

Maybe it is just immaturity.

The big problem is that people never move beyond the 8th grade level.  I see churches full of people who come from habit or for the social benefits.  If you knew them in their everyday life you would never know where they were on Sunday.  Think of all the people who claim to be Roman Catholic yet are pro abortion.  Think of people who have listened to the president lie to them again and again.  And again and again.  And they still believe him.  They never learned to put the big picture together in middle school.  They have not learned to put the picture together in life.

They are the sheeple who are easily led.  They are what makes a democratic form of government scary.  This is nothing new.  It is why the Founding Fathers gave us a republic, not a democracy.

The adventure continues.

    1. It is amazing how many insights those dead white men had, isn't it? It is no wonder they feared a pure democracy.

      Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
