What you find behind door 12 is not a chocolate candy cane. It is a shepherd’s crook. It is used to both beat and rescue. It can push, pull and direct. I think it was the main tool they had.
Everyone knows that the shepherds were told about the birth of the Christ Child. Like everyone else that sees an angel they had to be told not to be afraid. What is hard for me to wrap my head around is that they were at work and they left in response to the message. It doesn’t say if they left anyone to take care of the sheep. Maybe an angel volunteered. Maybe they didn’t care.
Christmas is a good time to listen and obey. These guys took off looking for the messiah with only two pieces of information: Wrapped in swaddling clothes and laying in a manger. Not much to go on but it was enough. God will give us the information we need to find the promises He is giving.
Merry Christmas.
