Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-050: Silver Linings

The silver lining of the Chinavirus scare is that we may see some changes in how we do business as a country.  We are suddenly realizing how dependent we are on a country that manufactures so much of what we use on a daily basis.  I was concerned about the technology being manufactured over there.  I was not aware of the medical supply lines.  The two things that jump out at me during the current panic are antibiotics and face masks.

I read today that 95% of our antibiotics come from China.  Really?  With all of the concerns about toxic chemicals in children’s toys and clothing we have seriously allowed them to make our medicine?  What could possibly go wrong?

Even here I am not panicked.  My sense of history reminds me of time like the beginning of World War II.  When America is challenged it swings into action.  We retooled and began to supply the war efforts of the Soviet Union.  It was an awesome output.  Consider what happens when a patent runs out on a popular product.  It seems like within days the clones are in every store.  We can see the same thing happening from medicine to screws.

The Trump hating Progressives* are giddy with forecasts of the recession they are hoping for.  They are convinced that Orange Man will finally be brought down.  If it were just him they might have a reason for optimism.  The problem they refuse to face is that Trump believes in America and free enterprise.  Americans will respond to fill the gaps caused by disruption of supply lines and will begin to produce again.  Prices will go up a bit but most of us can afford it.  Picture a world where you actually go to a local mom and pop hardware store to buy a paint brush they will clean and reuse rather than a throw away from a dollar store.

Before you strap in for the ride, wash your hands.

  1. Agreed. The crazy thing is that many of our component parts for the military, especially electronic, are made there. Can you imagine those parts being deliberately made NOT to work if China so chooses?

    1. I ran that by my geek son the other day and he didn't seem to be too worried about it in our everyday stuff. I didn't get to the military.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
