Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2017-390: Thanksgiving Countdown: Those Evil Pharmaceutical Companies

Are you thankful for the bounty of medications that are readily available?

What stirred this was the little red blood thinner I just took.  When I was paying the co-pay they cost around $14.00 a pill.  With Medicare D they still cost about $8.00 a day.  I understand that is cheap in relation to some drugs people are taking.  But you know what, I could probably live a long time without them.  The danger of not having this medication is statistical, not definite.  Yours could be literally life giving.

What about the things that are not expensive?  How about all the generic, over the counter remedies that we have?  I just took some ibuprofen for a day.  I don’t know if I have ever done that before but my joints were getting sore and I am getting old.  It was cheap.  It helped.  It was a miracle that the Founding Fathers might have written into the Bill of Rights if they had known.

I know that some people can only see the profit that the drug companies make.  They don’t see the billions that go into research.  They don’t see the billions that go into lawyers and insurance.  They don’t see the free drugs given to people in need.

Does greed exist?  You betcha.  Keep in mind, and be thankful, that the greed of profit is what may bring a cure to cancer, HIV and even the common cold.  Poor people are also greedy.  If you don’t believe it, watch the news on Black Friday and observe people being trampled to death at your local Walmart when they open the doors.  They aren’t looking for miracle cures.

And be thankful that you don’t need to be in that mob.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. I'm currently taking 500mg of Vitamin B3 in lieu of Eliquis. I ran out of Entresto a couple days ago , though, and I can tell that my BP is up a little. I don't know if it's just the lack of Entresto or a combination of the two.

    1. What frustrates me about your situation is that the system considers you too wealthy to get the services that you have paid into over the years. The 12 dollar splurge you have is a joke when you consider how many people are getting benefits who never paid in. Politics and greed together are a potent mix.

      Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
