Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2017-075: White Privilege in Texas

In class were looking at the regions of the country in 1815 and in order to engage the students I asked if any had ever visited the South.  One student said he had been to Texas so I asked if people were different there.  In other classes I had responses about how polite people were and such.  This young man said, “There are only white people.”  In Texas?  He himself was black visiting family who had move there from California.  I am not sure why all the black people were hiding from him.

When I was there last we had a problem with our rental car.  The manager who helped us was black.  I remember, not because he was black, but because we had a good discussion about politics.  The time-share we stayed in had a black family right across from us.  I am not sure what Texas he was visiting.  That doesn’t even get into the large Latino population.

But you heard it first here, from my class:  There are only white people in Texas.

  1. If that were only true, it should be a good place to move. Then again, maybe Texas blacks have more sense than northern blacks.

    1. The most common response I got, even from black students, was that everyone in the south was more polite.

      Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
