I am getting an early Christmas present. It is a trip to the dentist.
Why is that making me celebrate? I was able to schedule it on a Monday. On Mondays at our school the kids go home early and every second Monday we have a meeting planned and run by our fearless leaders. If you are a woman or man who likes to share your feelings and have no discernment about the big picture these are safe spaces for educators. If you think Common Core is a bunch of nonsense then these are times of cruel and unusual punishment.
It used to be that we could leave early on days like this and get in a dental appointment. Now they get legalistic with us and threaten to take an entire half day of sick leave. Okay. I can live by the rules. Now I take a day off, sleep in, go to the dentist and miss the meeting.
(For those of you who do not work for the government you may not even know what dental insurance and sick leave are. I understand.)
