Opus 2018-182: Last Flight from Sodom

Where do we go from here?  I continue to read headlines about pedophilia and the assault on children going on in the cultural elites.  Some of the headlines are exposes that act like criminal charges are going to be brought.  Others are statements that there are movements in government, education, entertainment and media to make sexual contact with children legal and mainstream.  It seems to be coming like a Mac truck.  I remember just a few years ago when we warned that accepting homosexuality would lead to child and animal sex being accepted and being told I was just an old Prude with sexual hang ups. 

It is knocking at the door.  Where do those of us who still have a shred of moral fiber go from here?

The question has already been asked politically.  I remember during the 2016 presidential campaign how Ted Cruz shared what his father had said.  To paraphrase, he had fled tyranny in Cuba and come to the United States.  If the United States falls and become another socialist workers paradise, where do we go from here?  There is no place left.

I have already left California.  So many leftists have fled that they are infecting the rest of the country.  I came to Texas.  Now I hear that Austin is talking about changing the name of the city because the man it is named after had slaves.  Really?  The crazies are alive and well in the Lone Star state. 

Where do I go from here?  I may not need to worry about it.  I am old enough that I may be dead by the time the fools completely take over.  I am worried more about my children and grandchildren.  I am worried about your decedents. 

I have hope though.  This is not the first time that perversion has been ascendent.  I think of the discussion between God and Abraham about the future of Sodom.  God was going to destroy it because of it evil.  Eventually Abraham brought his plea for mercy down to this.

(Genesis 18:32 KJV)  And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

God agreed to spare Sodom if there were ten righteous in the city.  Sodom was destroyed. 

How many will it take for God to spare America?

Opus 2018-181: Cornerstone Considerations: BRX, Limited Government

An important foundation of the American Experiment was the idea of limited government and the belief that the purpose of government was to guarantee the rights that God had given us.

In Europe you had the Divine Right of Kings.  In China you had the Mandate of Heaven.  In Japan, as in many countries around the world, the Emperor was god.  In all of these cultures the government was in the hands of the head of state.  God sanctioned that arrangement.  The government existed to maintain his power.  In what we would call benevolent dictatorships the ruler would look at himself as a protector.  That never overwhelmed the primary role of self preservation.

America was supposed to be different.  The Declaration of Independence makes it clear.  The Constitution was designed to keep that difference.  The Tenth Amendment spells it out.

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Of course powerful people are not happy with that.  Some want to become powerful for power’s sake.  Some believe they are being altruistic and only trying to do what is best for everyone.  That comes with a belief that they and a small group of their friends, the elite that Thomas Sowell calls The Anointed, are better equipped to guide us, make our decisions for us, and keep us out of trouble.  It is not important who is hurt or killed in the process.  They truly believe two things:  1)  The end justifies the means and 2)  You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. 

You and I are the eggs.  Elitist power is the end.

When we look beyond our party affiliation and come to grips with being Americans, that awareness should pull us together.  When power is limited to a few we need to understand that the chances of us being one of the few are worse than my middle school students becoming starters in the NBA.  You will not be on the top of the heap, as much as you think your ideas are golden.  You will be one of the first ones they lock away or finish off because you could represent problems in the future.  Selfishness, if nothing else, should bring us together on the principles set down by the Bill of Rights.

November is coming.  Elections matter.

Opus 2018-180: Baby Talk: All the parts

As I watched my granddaughter wiggle and squirm it occured to me that in that little body are all the parts necessary to build a house or drive a car.  There is a brain in that head.  There are muscles and ligaments galore.  She has all her fingers and toes.  In spite of that she can’t even grab a rag to wipe her slobber, let alone wash the dog.

It occurs to me that we are like that as adults.  Even as I move through old age I feel like there are still potentials that I have not tapped and levels I have not reached.  One thing that keeps me from reaching new goals is that I have a lot of baggage to maintain.  Babies don’t have much to do beside trying to figure out how to get their fingers into their mouths.  I have my projects and my “honey do” list.  I have deadlines and handicaps. 

I also still have potential.  So do you.  It is never too late to start a project.  You may never finish but it is better to leave it unfinished because you ran out of time than to leave it stillborn.

Now if I can just stop drooling.

Opus 2018-179: Russia vs Mexico

One of the memes I have been picking up involves the twelve Russians who theoretically influenced the election.  The Democrats and media celebrate the fact they were indicted.  At the same time they deny that millions of illegal aliens can influence the election.

I would say this is a clear example of the bigotry, racism and prejudice of the left.  They assume that Russians are exponentially smarter than Mexicans.  Twelve Russians can do what millions of Mexicans can’t.  I am sure they don’t see the racism in that but they are making assumptions that can only be explained that way.

Opus 2018-178: Liberal Logic, or Not

I keep looking for blogs that are gems out in the rough.  So many people who once expressed interesting points of view have stopped writing.  When I have time I will click on posts listed in the sidebar of a blog and see where it takes me.  One of those was Bearing Arms that had an article on a psych prof who was trying to be rational about the debate on gun ownership.

He seemed to be sincere but he used the same circular reasoning that confuses the issue.  When looking at the views of gun owners he admits that they are responsible and no danger to him or anyone else.  So far, so good.  Then he goes to explain his position.

‘I do not own a gun but I feel safe at home. As violent crime rates decrease, the likelihood being a victim of a personal crime that a gun could prohibit is very small, Most people will never find themselves in this situation. In addition, my personal freedoms are not infringed by gun regulation and I too recognize that illegal guns are a problem. If I generalize from my experience, I may have difficulty understanding why people would need a gun in the first place whether for personal protection or for a vaguely defined “protection from tyranny”.’

Notice that he admits violent crime is decreasing.  He feels safe.  Somehow that leads him to think that we need more gun laws.  If we have a situation where more people are owning guns and he does not feel they are threat to him and life is getting safer, why would he want to turn the clock back to the days of fewer guns? 

He does not understand “why people would need a gun in the first place”.  Fine.  I don’t understand why people feel they need to wear a lot of gold jewelry.  I don’t understand why people eat sushi.  I don’t understand why people build houses in areas with high fire, flood and landslide risks.  That does not mean that I improve society by passing laws to keep them from doing these silly things.  But then, I am a conservative who believes that you should have all the liberty you want as long as it doesn’t cross over into my space.

As for not understanding why we need guns for protection from tyranny, he obviously had a liberal teaching him history.  Tyranny thrives on a population of unarmed serfs who know their place and can do nothing to change it.

Don’t confuse a position on a college faculty with wisdom.

Opus 2018-177: New Laws: Open Wide

I don’t know if you have seen the meme about open borders and open doors.  The idea is that if you are in favor of open borders you should never close or lock your front door.  It should be open to show how you welcome the entire world into your life.  I used this illustration for years when I was teaching and immigration came up.  I am glad to see it making the net.

My suggestion is that we need a government agency and federal program to keep track of all people who are in favor of open borders.  We would then have a team of agents visit their homes when they are not looking and remove all locks from their doors.  They should also determine if there are any safes and jam them so they will not close.  (Obviously this will not cause gun safes to be left open because these people also are against guns).  With enough care you could also find out all their passwords and account numbers so that they would really be open in their lives.  The team would do the same for their cars and RV’s.  Finally they would remove all fences and security systems. 

We need to let the law of unintended consequences introduce these unicorn riders to the laws of cause and effect.  Physics and human nature will still operate no matter how much they deny it.

Opus 2018-176: Headlines: Page Cooperates

Not to be a cynic or anything but I fear for the safety of Lisa Page.  The headlines say she cooperated with congress.  I don’t know whether I can believe that or not, after all it did come from the media, but if she did I hope she is lining up extra body guards.  People who speak out against the deep state tend to become statistics.  If she is really being honest I would hate to see her join the list of people who have stepped out of line.

Secret Service maybe?
