Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2026-121: Right in Front of You

Different cultures take different paths.  You don’t need to get out much to realize that all cultures are not the same.  Multiculturalism is a political philosophy with no legs.  Think about how this has worked out.

Rome had its strength.  That strength was a combination of methodical organization and a beginning foundation of strong moral structure.  It was not the same that we would embrace but it places a premium on honesty and family among other things.  At the same time they closed the door on innovation and new ideas.  We have a record of industrial innovations being shut down because they would bring change.  Who knows how long Rome might have lasted if it had not ossified its development.

Think of the Indian cultures of Meso-America.  They knew about the wheel.  It was found on children’s toys.  Did they ever apply it as a labor saving device?  Never.  When you have plenty of slaves and peasants the ruling classes don’t care about such things.  They knew how to plant corn but they never invented a plow or a shovel.  Think about how the Indians showed the Pilgrims how to grow corn.  It reflects a primitive culture with no innovation and was the same way that the Aztecs did it.  Some cultures are curious about their world and move forward.  Others are content in their power and stand still.

Another example is brought to mind by the recent attitude reflected by the Muslims trying to ban dogs from public life.  In Scotland dogs were trained to help herd sheep.  Are there sheep in the Middle East?  Obviously.  Did any of the cultures think to train dogs?  Not to my knowledge.  Is it a surprise that the industrial revolution flowed out of Scotland instead of Iraq?

Cultures are not the same.  If you don’t believe it go live in Somalia for a few years.  For that matter, try an inner city close by so you can run home when necessary.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
