Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2021-184: Headlines: The Boob Tube Really Is

I followed an interesting link from Instapundit that took me to a site called Medical-X-press.  The article had to do with a study that showed people who watched a lot of TV were made dumber in the process.

In the study group the ones that watched the most TV had something like a 7% reduction in grey matter.  Their theory was that the sedentary nature of TV watching had something to do with it.  My questions was if it was lack of movement then reading should show the same results.  At the end they suggested that reading was mentally active while watching TV was passive.  They never did address digital devices that are so prevalent today.

So if someone warned you that watching too much TV would make you stupid, we now have some backup.

  1. I came over from Gorges blog and I agree with ya about the boob tube. I do own a small TV and I use it to watch movies, it is not hooked up to an outside antenna. Nothing I want to watch because it is so asinine and insulting to one's intelligence. I always have a book either in my nose or nearby.

    1. Welcome. I wish I had kept a list of the bookmarks I picked up from Gorges.

I am not sure if it was the advertising or the programs that used to insult my intelligence the most. Either way. I don't even know what is on TV any more.

      Grace and peace

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
