Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2021-144: Surgery, not Bandages

I think it is time to do away with public education.  Like so many good things in Western civilization, public education has Christian roots.  Sunday School started with Christians trying to educate children trapped in the industrial revolution.  In the new world the Pilgrims wanted their children to be able to read the Bible and think for themselves.  It was all good.

Then the Proregressives* got involved.

Keep in mind that the term “Progressive” is not new.  It goes back at least to the time of Woodrow Wilson.  It was eventually dropped because they had become associated with the fascist regimes of Europe.  Now that people have forgotten their history, or their history has been revised by the Proregressives, they have brought the term out again.  After all, who can be against progress?

There was a definite attack on the influence of Christianity in the schools and public aid to the poor.  Marvin Olaksy tracks this is his book The Tragedy of American Compassion.  One of the early attempts to get the federal government involved took place in 1912.  It involved the same groups that are trying to destroy our republic today.

“Again, a coalition of many social and civic organizations, liberal church groups, new welfare professionals, and journalists, went to work.”, p. 141
As is common today there was a definite antagonism among these people toward the Bible and Christianity.  Owen Lovejoy was president of the National Council of Social Work.
“By 1920, a clear theological understanding was shared by most of  the professional social workers, according to Owen Lovejoy,....  Lovejoy noted that most social workers did not wish "to  `defend' the Bible, the Church, the flag or the Constitution.”
These are the people who have molded our modern society.

It is a hundred years later.  They have been very successful.  Give the Devil his due.  The entire system is so polluted that it needs to be torn down and something new developed.  We need to display the same attitude toward the education monolith that they have toward our Constitutional Republic.  This time it needs to be done without their influence.  Will children need to be educated?  Yes, if you mean taught the basics of reading, writing, math and thinking skills.  No, if you mean brainwashed to be happy snowflakes.  Do you need professional educators to work this miracle?  Absolutely not.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
