Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2019-095: Headlines: The Game Is Over

I have mixed credentials when it comes to talking about “Game of Thrones”.

On the negative side, I never watched any of the series.  Of course that could be a positive but it is hard to tell at this early date.

On the positive side, I read the entire series in book form.  It was over several years and I don’t remember much except it was a good story.

From what I pick up on blogs and in memes the series has come to an end.  It also seems that what was very promising in the first 6 (?) years turned into a bomb in the last two.  My guess is that the first six followed Martin’s writing and the last two were products of millennial snowflakes expectations.

After a few years I expressed an interest in taking a look at the series.  I enjoyed the books and I like things like Lord of the Rings.  I like a good story, told well with characters worth caring about.  I mentioned it to my son and his comment was that if I watched it I need to prepare myself for a lot of violence, gratuitous sex and associated paraphernalia.  The violence part I could deal with.  It is hard to tell a medieval war story without violence but I really don’t need to fill my mind with improbable sexual exploits reflecting the frustrations of the artists so I decided to wait for the PG version if it ever comes out.

I am not sure why the ending is being lampooned.  I don’t know if it was really bad or just not politically correct.  I keep seeing a poster of a very blond woman being hailed by a bunch of darker skinned people in chains so there is a good chance the latter is the case.

I will never know.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
