This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2017-422: The Lottery Christmas

Merry Christmas.

I am aware that it only has a 1/365 chance of being the right day.  I would be glad to mark a day that everyone could agree on.  Everybody vote.  December 25?  Works for me.

I am aware that it has become commercialized to the point of being eclipsed as a spiritual milestone.  Doing away with Christmas because people make money in the celebration is like doing away with medicines because the people who develop them make money.  I could live with that.  It might make me slightly less comfortable and shorten my life by a year or two.  For you it might bring total destruction.  My frustration with gifts is I am not very good at choosing them. 

I am aware that it is a Christian holiday and might offend others in the community.  Then why do so many of them celebrate it?  Why do Jews put up Christmas trees.  Why do Buddhists hang stockings?  Why do atheists watch Charlie Brown’s Christmas?

I am aware that Joseph probably looked more like Yasser Arafat than Justin Bieber.  It does not bother me at all that African Christians portray a black infant or in Tokyo He looks Japanese.  The Bible says He created man in His image, male and female.  It doesn’t say He created us red and yellow, black and white.

In spite of that I still celebrate the incarnation.
(Galatians 4:4 KJV)  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
We went to a Christmas Eve service.  It was a truly Christian event because it not only presented the birth narratives; it also presented the Gospel and John 3:16. 

So I send you the appropriate greeting.  Take your pick or add your own.

    LOL - SINCE YOU BROUGHT IT UP, the chances are FAR less than 1/365, since the sheep aren't out in the fields in the winter in Israel. However, I can pretty much agree with the rest of what you say. SO, since you insist on celebrating it - merry Christmas! And may you have happy new year, as well.
