Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2016-132: On the Street: Federal Mandates

By now you are aware of the Obama administration coercing public schools into allowing the Daily Pervert to hang out in the girls shower room.  He is serious.  Ms. Lynch is serious.  And the department of Education is serious.  You can read about it at the World website.

Their timing is perfect.  In my classes we have been discussing the issue of slavery and how it divided the country.  The specific examples were the fugitive slave laws and the response of northern states.  The federal government said that the owners of the slaves had the right to recover their property and the states could not stand in the way.  Many northern states passed laws threatening to put people in jail if they obeyed the federal law.  In 1850 Wisconsin’s supreme court declared the law unconstitutional and the legislature declared it could lead to succession.  The same year Massachusetts gave a five year prison term to anyone who enforced the federal law.  Does it sound like what is going on in North Carolina today?

Under President Obama the federal government is involved in an unprecedented expansion of its power.   Today in the headlines we have a frontal assault by the people who brought you gay marriage.  Other issues on the front burner are land use, abortion (still), other areas of education, the Second Amendment, the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment, the Fifth Amendment... you get the idea.

The issue of states rights vs federal mandates blew up in a civil war 150 years ago.  Let us hope that the federal government will back down instead of forcing the issue.  Those of us that believe in the rule of law will continue to vote and use the courts.  Others may not be so patient.

  1. Personally, I think America is a lost cause. When the voters are stupid enough to knowingly vote a member of the enemy army into the White House, where can we go but down?

  2. That is the bad news. The good news is that as Christians we can remember that the church was established and thrived under the emperors of Rome which included Nero.

I don't want to live in interesting times but it looks like it might be heading that way.

    Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
