Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2016-129: Headlines: Dredging the Report

I am in the process of weaning myself from the Drudge Report.  I will keep the link.  I may check it out at some point but I have found it to be an unreliable source in this election cycle.

It is not because Drudge is biased.  We are all biased.  If the bias is open and honest I can deal with it.  I know how to filter it.  Drudge has sold himself as a conservative.  My mistake was in assuming that he was a full conservative.  In reality he is with those closet libertarians who call themselves conservatives but only mean on economic and personal liberty issues.  A person who is conservative on economic issues and liberal on moral (social) issues is not a real conservative to me.

Call it a litmus test, fine with me.  Remember that litmus paper does tell you if something is base or acid.

So a person who can be in the tank for Trump in the primary is more a moderate than a conservative.  We had a number of solid candidates who were more conservative and consistent than Trump.  He has been all over the map on every issue.  His position usually seems to depend on which way he thinks the current wind is blowing.  It is kind of like a roulette wheel.  The little ball bounces around.  Could it end up on your number?  Sure, but you won’t know until the bouncing stops.  Could Trump end up advancing the conservative concerns on the economy, abortion, marriage, second amendment and big government?  Sure, but like the roulette wheel, I am not willing to bet the farm on the marble being in the right slot at the end of the spin.

Drudge has positioned headlines and emphasized stories that consistently advanced the cause of Donald Trump.  He has done that without declaring his support, at least as far as I know.  Instead of being my go-to source he will drop to second or third place.  I don’t usually “boycott”, I just rearrange my priorities.  Usually I don’t have time to get to that level of reading.  Will this effect him?  Hardly.  I only accounted for about 5 out of his millions of hits a day.  Do I wish him well?  Sure.  He has a right to do what he wants with his site.  It is still a free country.

Whether it will be free after four years of Trump or Hillary is another question.

  1. "Solid?" Well I guess Huckabee and Carson were. The rest would sell their own mother for a five-spot.

  2. At the time I would have agreed with you on Carson. I guess 50% is an improvement, right?

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
