Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2016-11: Election 2016: An Update on Health Care

I would hope that most people who bother with what I write also check out the cartoons at Hope and Change.  If you are like I used to be you just enjoy the cartoons and ignore the writing underneath.  For once I would like you to read the comments.  You will need to scroll down a little for the second entry which deals with Obamacare.

How is Obamacare working for average people?  Here is someone who wanted nothing to do with it but was forced onto the plan.  Read about the total incompetence of the system and how it is designed to do little but mess with us and force us onto socialized medicine.

The frightening thing about this is the way in which faceless voices on the phone or impossible to navigate voice-mail can make us totally helpless.  I would like to think these are just blips but I keep hearing them and I know how government agencies can work.

We have an election coming up.  This is one of the issues that require you to look beyond the candidate for president and consider that every member of the House of Representatives and one third of the Senate are up for expulsion.  It is up to us.

Elections matter.

  1. Circumstances finally forced me to put my wife on Obamacare. Unfortunately, it has a $7000 deductible and we still have to pay $45 up front per visit. It was only costing me $50 up front BEFORE I signed her up. Now, the republicans vow to repeal it, and if they do, we'll be on the hook for anything OVER the $7000 as well. I guess there's NEVER been a good time to be a poor man.

    1. I am one of those protected minorities that thee government is trying to buy off so at this point I still have reasonable insurance. It is still out there but I wait for the other shoe to drop. Teachers' unions are dupes of the socialists who think they will be spared but I doubt it. If it all falls apart then keep in mind that the doctors will still need to make a living and might start charging reasonable rates to get any customers.

      Grace and peace.

    2. Pumice,
This comment about doctors needing to make a living is the most hopeful thing anyone's said about the new reality in quite some time. However, I wonder how likely this will be considering (a) the high levels of student loan debt new doctors are carrying and (b) the entrenchment of the system forcing so many doctors into the HMOs and other "managed" systems. If they do not become employees of these corporations, they are constrained by high costs including malpractice.

    3. It gets complicated, doesn't it. Government regulations make it impossible for people to be free to fail or soar. Crony capitalism keeps the big HMO executives in perks. Crony lawyers make sure that anyone who lifts their head above the weeds gets cut down to size or lower.

I know I have been helped by willing doctors in the past. I am not sure they could afford to take the risk any more.

      Grace and peace.

  2. Throw the bums out...or, worse, take away their health care plan and make them see what they have foisted on us.

I do not believe that modern health care will be available to us serfs pretty soon (and I work in health care). What burns me is that they're telling us we have to PAY ANYWAY for insurance. What's being provided is basically catastrophic insurance for cadillac insurance prices.

    1. Ah, so you are one of THOSE people. It must be like being a teacher in the age of dumbing down.

Sounds like Social Security. It is a pattern for government programs. They ought to do it with education and have a charge in addition to paying in taxes.

      Grace and peace.

    2. Yes, I'm sure I'm on a no-fly list or something. I don't toe the line and don't always keep my mouth shut.

    3. Unless you have read the First Amendment, that is a dire confession.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
