Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2012-11, Plow and Crown: The Opiate of the People Strikes Again

I am angry.  Another one of my students has fallen victim to the drug culture.  I am not sure of the name of the drug but I know it is not heroin, cocaine or marijuana.  It is not an illegal drug although I think it is an immoral drug.  It is one of those drugs that is handed out by weary adults to children they don’t want to deal with anymore, the ones that are supposed to deal with a modern discovery called ADD.  There is more than one, the best known is Ritalin.

In case you live in a cave or took the drug yourself, ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder.  A variation of it is ADHD which means Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  The difference is the the second group tend to be discipline problems where the first group have only learned to be selectively forgetful.  In our modern culture, where the government and experts are here to help you, we are supposed to have totally worry free lives.  Since man is the peak of evolution and sin does not exist there is a cure for everything.  Just ask the Experts.  One of the things that can be cured is ADD or as it used to be called, LBS, Little Boy Syndrome.  It used to be cured by maturity, example and consistent discipline which taught the little boy that there were consequences for forgetting to take out the trash.  Civilization survived.  Today we have little maturity, poor examples and “discipline” is a dirty word.

Another thing we are taught the experts can cure is ADHD, or as it used to be called, LODS, Lack of Discipline Syndrome.  It used to be cured by the “tune of the hickory stick.”  Civilization survived.

How does this have anything to do with the Plow and Crown?  Since the beginning of time the elites have controlled by masses by the use of drugs.  In more primitive cultures the drug of choice was alcohol.  You find this in the book of Proverbs.
(Proverbs 31:6-7 KJV)  Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.  Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
We know that Marx talked about religion being the opiate of the people.  He must have know the concept of the crown trying to keep people off the streets and behind the plows.  It can be done in many ways, all of which are regulated by the elites.  We have the obvious use of drugs and alcohol.  We have TV and electronic entertainments.  We have public school.  All of these reduce the level of intelligence and limit options.  All are controlled by the people who want to limit your liberty.

Instead of dealing with children in school, we drug them.  We have professional educators, progressive politicians and harried health care providers.  They all feel like the easiest way out is to slip a few chemicals into the bodies of our young people.  What are the long term consequences?  No one really knows but the early results are not promising.

Today it is questionable if civilization will survive.

My heart goes out to the young student that is the catalyst in my anger.  He was never a problem, just lazy and knowing how to work the system.  He knew the least he had to do to get by and that is all he did.  I have noticed no sudden sense of responsibility in him.  He still doesn’t bring his book to class.  He was never a discipline problem and that has not changed.  But his mother can now blame a “condition” and his doctor has the mother off his back.

My heart cries out but there is nothing I can do.

  1. I pray for him and all like him. people would rather have faith in a magic little pill to cure the human condition than look to an almighty creator lead them through it. I believe it is hard to truly be a Christian today because of the scarcity of them. Who are we to look to. the world has invaded our churches. Jesus warned the disciples about the yeast of the pharisees. I fear that yeast rises in my genaration and is rooting out the good. God Bless and please don't give up hope.

  2. We are on the same page, or should I say we read the same Pages.

Thank you. I don't give up hope because I spend enough time with the Lord that He renews me every day. If I ever lose the discipline of daily worship, THAT is when despair might creep in.

    Keeping the faith.

    Grace and peace.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
