Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2023-077: God and the Million Monkeys

We have all heard about the million monkeys typing on a million typewriters eventually coming up with the works of Shakespeare or the Encyclopedia Britannica.  It is one of the talking points of people who favor evolution by chance.  They figure if there is enough time anything can happen.  Maybe so but the time limitations now being put on the process make it unlikely.  But that is not my point.

In my worship of praise time I was thinking about the mind of God.  If God is infinite and all knowing as the Bible declares it occurred to me that the monkey typing analogy might be a good way to understand the scope of God’s mind.

He would be aware of every stroke and all the possible variations.  That is so far beyond the human ability that I can’t even grasp how silly it would be for me to visualize it.  Computers have been taught to play chess.  I think the process is that they can visualize all the possibilities for, say, 100 moves and chose the most likely.  Expand the board and add to the pieces and you would get the computer putting out smoke and squeaks.  God would have no problem

Existing outside time would mean He is aware of them constantly.  Since the possibilities are finite, even if vast, He would be able to handle them with one divine hand tied behind His back.  If our mind had fuses, it would blow them.

What is truly awesome is that this same God seems to care about us as individuals.

Beyond comprehension except that it is a glorious thought.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
