Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2023-065: Caricature 54 Where Are You?

I am thinking about all the stereotypes I am bombarded with and how few of them I actually experience.  The click-bait and memes are full of entertainment that is designed to get attention.  The memes are especially enjoyable because they contain genuine humor, but it occurred to me this morning that I don’t experience much of this in real life.

Granted, I live in Texas hill country.  My neighborhood is mostly 2 acre lots with plenty of breathing room.  It is not a groomed Beverly Hills 2 acres.  It is mainly rocks, shallow soil, cedar, mesquite and twisted oaks.  When I walk I can go my entire route without seeing anyone or I might talk to three different people and wave at half a dozen cars.  I am also a homebody.  I don’t go out and hit the bars and definitely don’t hang out at Starbucks.  But when I do stop at a local taco place I don’t see the ranting crazies that are featured in the features.

When I go to the grocery store the customers I pass fit into just about every demographic.  They seem to be polite and have no hatred in their eyes.  Sure, a few wear masks but they are tolerated by the rest.  The steak place I prefer, Montana Mike’s, has a different mix of customers and staff every time I go in.  I have yet to see any anger or hostility based on race or economic class.

How much of the obnoxious bloviation is common and how much is a media framing?  Keep in mind that the people who control information and the narrative have a vested interest in keeping us at each others throats.  I am not sure they are being successful on the streets so they must keep pushing their version of reality on the screen.

I accept that these people exist but I am thinking that they are magnified out of proportion by the divisive elites.  I will continue treating people with dignity and courtesy.  What have I got to lose?  Everything, if the Proregressives* have their way.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
