Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-122: Headlines: Pills

You may have seen the meme about Elon Musk tweeting he took the red pill.  As I followed a link from a news aggregate site called Rantingly I found it interesting how dense some people can be.  Fox News which used to be “fair and balanced” keeps moving to the dark side and it is because of its writers like the one quoted here.

The article finds it necessary to try to explain the reference to “red pill”.  It comes from a movie called “The Matrix”.  I don’t know how many people tried to explain the movie to me.  None of them connected.  Finally I watched it on a flight to Japan.  Rantingly’s link sent me to NewsMax which gives this explanation as part of the story.
“In ‘The Matrix,’ the full phrase is about seeking the truth, with Morpheus telling the main character Neo that ‘You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.’ Neo takes the red pill.”
I have never been able to remember which pill reveals reality to you until I realized that red is associated with the right and blue with the left.  How appropriate.  NewsMax quotes a Fox reporter who obviously missed the whole point of the Musk tweet.
“However, Fox News reported Monday that the phrase has become slang for people who abandon liberalism to become conservative.”
Yeah.  That is the whole point.  Musk was pointing out that Progressives* live in a world of fantasy and make believe.  People who read the Fake News take a steady diet of blue pills so that they can return to their sheltered snowflake existences and never be disturbed by reality.

Has Musk really emerged from his lefty loft?  Only time will tell.  Fox News seems to be moving the other direction.
