If he can cause enough violence in the streets it will give him constitutional power to suspend our rights. From Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution:
“The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety require it.”All he has to do is declare that the “public safety” requires his being able to arrest the trouble makers. Abraham Lincoln did it during the Civil War. I think Wilson did it during World War I. I am sure it was part of the justification that Roosevelt used to inter the Japanese during World War II. The precedent is available.
Later you see another justification in Article 4, Section 4
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened), against domestic violence.”In addition to riots this could be one reason that he doesn’t want to secure the borders. Call illegal immigration an invasion and you can take over Texas, Arizona and California.
Of course it would be for our own protection.
I don’t think this is what the Founding Fathers envisioned.
