Welcome to Varied Expressions of Worship

This blog will be written from an orthodox Christian point of view. There may be some topic that is out of bounds, but at present I don't know what it will be. Politics is a part of life. Theology and philosophy are disciplines that we all participate in even if we don't think so. The Bible has a lot to say about economics. How about self defense? Is war ethical? Think of all the things that someone tells you we should not touch and let's give it a try. Everything that is a part of life should be an expression of worship.

Keep it courteous and be kind to those less blessed than you, but by all means don't worry about agreeing. We learn more when we get backed into a corner.

Opus 2020-261: Designer Bodies

I have always thought of the world being created for man.  As I was thinking about our immune system and how it works it occurred to me that it was the other way around.  The heavens and the earth were created first.  Man was created after the fact.  While I am sure that God had it all planned out it would seem that the proper order is that man was created with the world in mind.

Set aside gravity, oxygen/nitrogen balance, temperature and a host of other designer features.  The world was full of germs.  Thus we have that our defenses were designed to operate in a world of bacteria and viruses.  We have an immune system that starts at the oils on our skin and proceeds through the white blood cells custom designed for what ails us.

And note that the world was a wild and crazy scene.  Adam was tasked with “subduing the earth.”  It was not the pristine nature that we imagine.  It was the Garden of Eden that needed to be brought under control.

The best defense against disease is not a mask and social distancing but eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest.  And of course wash your hands.  Many other dangers we face can also be countered by simple behaviors and a moral life.  And of course the hope of eternal life is based on a free gift from God.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
