I was looking at the headlines on Real Clear Politics and saw one that stopped me for a second, “What We Can Learn From the Great and Flawed Columbus”. I glanced through the article. It seemed legit. At the same time I thought the click bait stated the obvious: Columbus had flaws.
I am not sure if you need a degree in literature or journalism to make such an observation. We are all flawed. Sometimes those who make the most impact are the most flawed.
Columbus’ is not great because he discovered the new world. He is great because he went against the common wisdom and sailed into the unknown. Think of him as the original Star Trek, going where no man had gone before. Someone was going to open up the western hemisphere for European exploration. It just so happened that it was Christopher Columbus.
Happy Columbus Day
