I am developing a new game. I generally throw out advertisements that come in the mail. I am not looking for a ranch in hill country and don’t need my house appraised. I don’t need new windows and I already have a tree guy. Today a piece of artwork came for some kind of financial service and I decided it was time to get started.
I wanted to know if they really wanted my business. Remember how we used to hear that various minorities felt left out because they did not see themselves in the movies, TV programs or advertising. I have decided that is a two way street so I looked at this mailer. Do I see myself?
One side had mainly hands. The one cheek showing was up for grabs about the affirmative actions boxes it checked. The hands seemed to represent a full spectrum. Are hands enough to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, included and loved?
The other side made me feel like a lost child. There was nothing that could be called male. There were women and more hands. One picture had a black woman and one that was a Latina. All I can guess is that they don’t want my business.
Seems logical to me.
