Opus 2023-117: Where Is Wesley When We Need Him?

I am wondering if a cultural collapse is becoming a necessity.  Historically all civilizations and cultures have come to an end.  The only possible exception is the Jewish culture.  The end seems to come in different ways.  The one we think of first is being conquered by an invading force.  What is more common is the loss of social cohesion to the point that any strong group coming in simply picks up the reigns and starts driving.  We have some cultures that disappeared and we don’t know why but I am guessing that all cultural deaths are a combination of inward confusion and outward pressure.

We tend to look to parallels with Rome and I think it is a good comparison.  The year 476 is often given as the date of the fall of the Roman Empire.  That only applies to the west and the date simply reflects a change in dynasty.  Rome did not disappear.  It had gotten weaker by the day.  The symptoms are well known:  the destruction of the middle class, high taxes, moral decadence, a huge slave class, Romans loss of willingness to stand up for themselves.  The list goes on.  All you need to do is look around you for more ideas.

We are getting to the point where we are so comfortable that we don’t feel a need for God.

We have lost our moral moorings to the point where we don’t believe in sin.

We are so arrogant we reject the idea that we could be sinners.

It may be the only solution is prophetic level chaos.

But keep in mind that historically there have been turn arounds.  Wesley brought England to revival, Israel had several kings that changed the formula.  Who knows how many times in other cultural lines a wise leader has brought a renaissance?  

Do your part to make the country worthy of mercy.
