Behind the door is a tiny chocolate gift. There is a good case for the wise men not being at the manger. It is clear that they came but it is probable that they showed up a couple of years later.
One reason we can believe they were absent is the age of the children Herod had murdered when the wise men did not come back to report success. Remember he asked when the star appeared. The guess is that the magi had been traveling for two years.
The second reason is that when they found the child it says in Matthew that they went into the house. In Luke 2 it says the shepherds found him in a manger. The idea is that they stayed in Bethlehem and moved into a house before the wise men got there.
Don’t rush out and take the wise men out of your nativity. They are part of the story. Leave them there for the children to enjoy. It also gives more parts for the Christmas Pageant.
Merry Christmas
