I love the enthusiasm of new home schoolers. They are committed to having their children grow up with values and strong minds. They are willing to commit to the time and change in priorities.
But they are somewhat fragile and need all the encouragement they can get.
They need to be told they can do it. I had a conversation with a young mother who is on the program and she was wondering if she could teach the child. I had to laugh because she had a double bachelors in chemistry and math. Those are the subjects people are afraid of. I did a lot of laughing, in a supportive way of course. The next guffaw was when she said she would not be able to teach Calculus II.
I have news for her, neither can the public school teacher.
If you know anything about what is going on in our public schools and many of our private schools then you realize that home school students may be the hope of the future. If you know someone involved in the adventure, encourage them.
