Opus 2022-259: Whom Are You Going to Believe?

The list goes on.  We insist on having gurus.  They serve a dual function.  For some it is just having someone do the thinking for them.  For others it is finding the guru who echoes what you want to say but no one is listening.

We often forget that truth is a matter of truth.  Too often we are impressed by the person speaking rather than the truth of what is said.

Be careful what you use as a source of truth.  When I was a kid I accepted what my parents and teachers told me.  It wasn’t long before I realized that the teachers were not above lying.  It used to be we thought we could believe what we read.  At this point in my life that is only the case when I read a Bible that uses a word for word translation philosophy.  It is sad that when you joke about how it must be true because you read it on the internet, people will nod their heads and you are not sure if they are joking or empty headed.

Keep thinking for yourself.  Check out the facts.  Double check them.  Run them by a source that does not change with the cultural whims around us.

  1. When life hits you in the face, hard, before you're 40, you learn quickly to live by your own gut instinct. I was 38 when I buried my 2nd husband (27 when I buried my first) and I realized then that with God's help and the gut instinct he was giving me that I was on my own to raise my 14 yr. old daughter and make a good life for us. Thankfully, my work as a RN carried us both through. Now, being retired, I feel so thankful to God for blessing me with the courage and strength I needed...and for His telling my "gut instinct" to make me listen. The culture has changed greatly over all these last 40 yrs. but thankfully, with God's help, I ignored most all of it and taught my daughter the same. I feel sorry for today's generation. They are bombarded by culture changes and I often ask myself "where are their parents" ? Usually those parents really don't exist anymore.

    1. I salute your faith. So many would sink into bitterness.

Comments are welcome. Feel free to agree or disagree but keep it clean, courteous and short. I heard some shorthand on a podcast: TLDR, Too long, didn't read.
